Why Does Cake Batter Rise When Baked? Yeast? Eggs? Magic?

Posted by   + Show Post

Do you know why cakes rise when you bake them in the oven? The answer isn't yeast, as many people think. Share this video with your kids for a very tasty science lesson!

Do you bake with your kids? Are they curious about how things change from batter or dough to the finished product?

LOL, mine, too, but they still love to help me whenever I bake. :)

My kids loved to bake with me when they were little.  Now they're old enough to make their own brownies and cupcakes!

It's a fun way to teach them things like that, isn't it? It's also great for teaching them how to follow directions in order. :)

baking is how we taught fractions and measures to our kids when they were little

It has paid off too! I have all my older kids either in college or graduated all with science and math based majors. The younger ones are all on the honor roll as well. I think lots of parents can find opportunities at home to teach kids in fun different ways and not expect the school to do it al! The side benefit is I rarely have to cook anymore all the kids are great at it.
