“Memorial Day is not about mattress sales and cook-outs,” says Hannah Gregory, campaign spokesperson. “We are working to remind people what Memorial Day is all about and that while they are enjoying the company of their families, there are many military families who are handling the loss of a loved one that gave the ultimate sacrifice for our country.”
I agree with thanking them when they are still with us. Where i work, many of our volunteers come from Gunter AFB, and we have regular opportunities to do just that... and we do. Their responses are always so kind, and I am so very proud of our military.
Quoting MissJeanne:First PLEASE DO NOT make this week-end the ONLY TIME you thank a service man for serving, I make it a practice to go up to any person in uniform and tell them I appreciate their service, I do this every time I see one. As for my Memorial Day, I'll go tomorrow to Arlington Cem. and put flowers on the graves of my BIL, his two cousins, all were in early 20's and left children that do not remember them, then to my Grandfather who fought in Spanish American war with Teddy Roosevelt and J. J. Pershing, he alsoserved in the Border dispute and WWI, I will then go to where my husband and baby are buried and put flowers there as well. When I see my neighbor I will donate flags, as another neighbor is returning from his stint in Afghanistan, there are a few here thaT WANT HIM TO KNOW WE CARE.
