I used to work at this fancy French restaraunt. Everyone who ate there made a whole experience of it; five courses, a different wine with each course, espresso and petit fours afterwards. Mmmm... A big part of the reason I worked there was my fascination with the culinary arts. I loved just being AROUND all that culinary greatness. The chefs had been imported from all over the world. The head chef had cooked for both Scottish and British royalty. The Queen of England is a huge fan of his cheddar cheese souflee. We never got to taste any of the food, though. :( We were supposed to, in case the customers wanted recommendactions, but they never let us anyway. I finally quit b/c business was so slow that I couldn't support my kids working there. Our area is more of a Bar B Q and Tex Mex town. :/ When dh and I got married last year, he took me there for dinner! Actually being able to eat there was like a dream come true for me. I was never able to afford it, myself. He told me we would eat there every anniversary. Yay! But... I called to make reservations, they were closed down. :( But- We're nearish a big major city, so I looked on zagat's website to see if there were any restaraunts we could go to that would be as good. I found one that was also French and rated #2 in our area! The one that was rated #1 had bad customer reviews, plus it was a steak restaraunt, which I'm not as crazy about as French cuisine, and dh said we could go to any restaraunt I want. Yay! I'm so excited. I'm nervous about leaving my 4 month old with Mom cuz I've hardly let go of her since she was born, but it will be nice to actually relax and enjoy a meal for once. Baby doesn't let me do that much. UPDATE: The restaraunt was AWESOME! :) I had pumped 9 oz of milk for my parents to feed the baby when they watched her. We were nervous about leaving the baby, but she was ok, even though she refused the bottle. I'd been trying to teach her to use it, but apparently she still doesn't like it. I did feed her right before we left, but the restaraunt was an hour away. We had a cheese course, which dh wasn't crazy about. His kind of cheese is cheddar and American, lol, but I liked it, and they had delicious warm fresh baked ciabatta rolls to go with it. Then, we had the best Caesar salad I've ever had. Then we had this crab tower with crab, avacado, mango and tomato. It was so good! Then I had this swallows in risotto entree, with the biggest scallops I've ever seen. I wasn't as impressed with the desserts, because the only chocolate one they had was flan, but I had a little English trifle in a Martini glass, and a cappacinno. Yum! UGH! Stupid autocorrect! I had scallops, not swallows! LOL

How sad that restaurant closed down.
Hope you have the most marvelous dinner.
Ever since I read this Somerset maugham story about a lady and her delectable asparagus I have been a fan of French cuisine ..
There is a wonderful neighborhood French restaurant close to us. Such a treat to escape into it and enjoy a romantic, leisurely dinner.
Enjoy! And come back and tell us what you ordered.

Yeah, it is really sad that they closed. It was an amazing place, our town just isn't ready for that kind of restaraunt. We would get people in there looking at the menu going, 'ain't you just got some steak somewhere on this menu!?' lol Also, I adored all the chefs and looked forward to saying hi to them. I think I will enjoy this other place, though. I'll be sure and update this post and tell you all about it. :)

That is so wonderful that your husband is making a point to encourage your interests too. It sounds like he cares about you a lot.

I really hope the other restaurant is good. Having a good rating on Zagat is a good sign.

They'd had both a prix- fix menu and an a la carte. I ordered the prix- fix, which just means it was five pre selected small courses. It was shrimp prawns on one course, duck on another, some kind of beef dish and I don't remember the rest. Everything was delicious, even the duck, and I had thought I didn't like duck.

Yeah, he's a very caring man, but usually he insists on picking the restaraunt, and it's usually one of three, only one of which I even like, and even that one I get tired of, and usually if I want to order dessert he's like; 'We have ice cream and Hostess cupcakes at home, why would we pay 5$ for dessert?'
