****UPDATE****Should we pay him or offer him something?

And if we should, how much or what?

Here's the situation. Yesterday I paid for some carpet, not much, at Home Depot. They couldn't get to it and said I could come back tomorrow( which is today) and pick it up. Well it's 30 miles away and the guy helping me said he lives in our town and offered to just bring it with him after work and drop it at our house, he lives right down the street from us. So we say how nice that is and agree. So when he brings it should we pay him, offer to pay or what? I definitely do not want to be rude or have him think we are unappreciative. I need advice!

He wouldn't take the money. He said they aren't allowed to take tips. I said but you offered this on your own, you saved us time and gas, please take it. He wouldn't. How nice of him to do that for us!

I know!
Honestly I would have done the same. It wasn't out of his way at all and took about 2 min to drop off. I totally would have offered like he did. I like doing things for others if I can.
