Should I be alarmed

My son was born 10-18 and he still has his cord stub. It has a smell so called doc have to go in at 9am about. Did I do the right thing? There been many times I thought something went then nothing.

This happened to one of my babies. We took her to special Dr.  All worried and nervous on what they would do. The dr got silver nitrate and put it on the cord. Fell off on the way home. No problems after that.
