where do the taxes go to ?

the taxes charged when you go to the grocery store, and any other store that is.........

Federal spending, sweetie (medicare/medicaid, defense, etc).  The raise in current taxes are due to Obamacare.

 That is called sales tax. A portion goes to your city or county and a portion is used to help the store pay its taxes. The amount of the tax varies from state to state.

Sales taxes are different than federal or state taxes.  The sales taxes usually go to your local governments like city and/or county.  They pay for schools, parks, fire and police, libraries, neighborhood sidewalks and whatever others projects the local government pays for.  I don't think the sales taxes goes toward covering a company's corporate taxes, if so it is not much.  You can search for your local government and see how the money is allocated.
