Woman Carrying Fetus In Bag Won't Be Charged, Maine Police Say

03/06/13 10:14 AM ET EST AP

BANGOR, Maine - Authorities in Bangor, Maine, say no criminal charges are pending in the case of a woman found carrying a fetus in a plastic grocery bag.

Sgt. Paul Edwards says officers confronted the woman Friday after getting a call that she had a fetus. The woman approached an officer with what appeared to be a fetus inside a sealed plastic container, which was inside the bag.

The state medical examiner's office in Augusta, the attorney general's office, and police investigated. They determined the matter concerns the miscarriage of a 15-week-old fetus.

Edwards said Wednesday the mother has been identified, but he didn't say whether it was the woman who was carrying the bag. He says the case is considered closed.

This makes no sense...she had a miscarriage so she shouldn't be charged...but why she was carrying it around in a plastic bag is beyond me...I mean she could have been on her way to the doctors office or emergency room with it...what was she doing that people knew what was in the bag? Hmmm

If it was the mother carrying the fetus, maybe she was in shock and not fully awate of she was doing. Shock can do funny things to the mind.

She shouldn't be charged and I think the woman may be off mentally.

The lady wasn't the mother. They're not releasing why she was carrying it. They did a DNA and found who the Mom was. They said the only 'law' being broken was they didn't have the same permit a funeral director would have - transport of dead body. It's a $200 fine.
