To prolong the life of cut flowers without using commercial plant food, add 2 tablespoons vinegar and 1 teaspoon of sugar to the water...

I knew about vinegar, but I've never heard of adding sugar as well.

I think I heard baking soda too. I've never tried it though. I don't like cut flowers.

I'd heard about the sugar, but didn't know about the vinegar.  Who Knew????
