Do you let your children do this??

How many moms let their kids play outside alone and unsupervised? There are a ton of kids on my block that play outside after school until well after the sun sets and they're all 10 and under. Is this safe? Do you agree with this? Do you let yours play outside alone like this?

I let them play when I am not outside but I know what they are doing.

Yes and I always have. I go out to check on them. My neighbors all watch out for them too.

They're 12 and 13 now so they do go outside alone to play but I do still check on them periodically and they're in my fenced-in backyard where I can see them. I've never let them just roam the neighborhood unsupervised, even though I myself did that when I was as young as 5. Things are just much different now and where back then all the neighbors knew me and helped my mom look out for me when I rode my bike around, nowadays they keep to themselves and refuse to get involved. It's just too scary out there now.

My oldest is 3, so I don't.

Backyard, yes. We had a woods area to play. All the kids played of school age. Under school age, no.

Nope, but my oldest is only three. Hopefully by the time she can cross the street by herself we'll live in a neighborhood where she'll have friends nearby like I did growing up. I used to cross the street in front of the house and my friends' parents would call when I got there.
