$ = screaming during labor

Posted by Anonymous   + Show Post

The Washington Post has spotted an almost too-hard-to-believe nugget from an international report on corruption: A hospital in Zimbabwe charges women $5 for every time they scream during labor.

In theory, it's to curb "false alarms," but it's really about "separating mothers from their money," writes Max Fisher.

Zimbabwean hospitals also typically charge a $50 delivery fee, which may not sound like much until you realize it amounts to a third of an average citizen's yearly income, says Transparency International. That helps explain why so many women opt to give birth at home, and why the United Nations estimates that eight Zimbabwean women die each day in childbirth.

The overall report also found that 1 in 4 people paid a bribe last year.

All that stuff is REALLY close together.

With my fifth pregnancy, I kept feeling like I had to pee.  *rolls eye*

Quoting Elyce225:

Oh man, my second would have caused us to go broke.

At the end of the pregnancy I kept having gall bladder attacks and thought they were contractions, lol.

Was this meant to be sarcastic?

No, not at all!

I was agreeing with you.

I misread; I was thinking bladdar.  Sorry; I know the gall bladder is higher up.

Sorry about that.  No, I wouldn't be sarcastic about such a thing!

Oh, I was like "whatever jerk, gall bladder attacks hurt", lol.

I had four HUGE babies. They really did a job on my bladder too. If I laugh, sneeze, or cough I pee myself :( Damn kids.

I never felt labor for any of my kids so I can't relate to screaming, whining ,swearing etc...

That's just crazy.

I wasn't a screamer until my last labor, but that one was a doozy. I know every labor is different but that one gave me nightmares afterword (no lie!) and overwhelmed my pain tolerance 10 times over. I'd like to say it again: I HATE Pitocin!

Sorry about that.  I'm so tired I'm having trouble with reading comprehension. lol

Mine weren't little; my smallest was 7#10oz and my largest was 1 oz short of 9#.  I'm tiny though; everyone was amazed I could get out such large babies. lol

On the peeing yourself, I had that problem too.  My GYN said to do kegel exercises. my pelvic floor muscles were so lose I was having a lot of problems; after about a week, all of them were getting a lot better and in less than a month, I wasn't having any problems at all.

Same here.  I had to be induced with my last two and augmented with my second, but my first was the best (text book labor and delivery, except that I only pushed for 5 min and it was my first).

I was a screamer though, with all four of them.
