Should babies be banned from fancy restaurants?

I saw on the news that a chef at Alinea, a $265-per-head restaurant, had to deal with complaints from diners because there was a crying infant at the restaurant. Now I'm all for taking your little ones with you to a family-oriented place, but a pricy establishment like that seems more the kind of place you'd go as a couple, sans kids, especially given the cost.

Do you think babies should be banned from fancy restaurants like this?

Fine dining is not a place for anyone of any age that cannot sit still and use soft, indoor voices.

Yes. Why do they need to be there? People should hire baby sitters or choose to eat somewhere else.

I would be very angry if I went to an upscale 265$ a plate restaurant and had to hear a crying baby when I took the time to find a babysitter so I didn't have to hear children. Why can't people understand that children don't always belong in places?

I would be beyond pissed. I spent $200+ the other night on 3 of us. I would have been pissed if a baby or child was there acting up or crying.

It's not the price of the restaurant that would stop me from taking little kids, it's the ambiance. If it was an elegant quiet place, yes, just expensive, no.  Valentines Day is definitely a day where children shouldn't be in restaurants.

I took my kids to restaurants from when they were infants in car seats. If they cried, I took them out. They learned how to behave in fine restaurants, and now my daughter works in one in Beverley Hills.
