Are they allowed in and out as they please?

ETA: To some moms that say that their room are "always off limits", why is that?

If the door is opened, they can come and go as they please. If the door is shut, they better knock. The 4 older ones learned that the hard way.

Yes, never ever thought about making the room off limits. Sex is later or middle of the night or if they are gone.

Yes, when the door is open he always could come and go as he pleased. DH was afraid he'd walk in on us having sex and pounded it into his head to knock if it was closed. It worked, we never got caught, our privacy was respected and he still felt welcome.

Children should be able to get to you at any time you are in your bedroom. Understandable that a child would have to knock during sometimes, OK but when you are done you need to unlock and open the door. During the times you are not in there, yes a child who doesn't understand boundries yet, a shut door may be neccesary.

We just always put the dog and cat out and shut the door. Then got up and let them back in and got up for the day, since we were morning people.
