The Cafe The Cafe

This is one of the many reasons i am NOT for OBAMA

Posted by   + Show Post

Just when you thought reports of Barack Obama and his controversial minister Rev. Jeremiah Wright were over, a new individual appears.

Now news of Obama's relationship with homophobe Rev. James T. Meeks has been revealed, and it's very upsetting.

Rev. Meeks is an Illinois state senator and serves as the pastor of the 22,000 member Salem Baptist Church in Chicago, where Obama frequently campaigned back in 2003 when running for Senate.

Rev. Meeks has been described as someone in which Obama seeks spiritual counsel from, according to an article printer in the Chicago Sun Times. He will even serve as an Obama delegate at the 2008 Democratic convention in Denver.

Rev. Meeks has served on Obama’s exploratory committee for the presidency and was even listed on Obama's campaign website as one his ‘influential black supporters’. The Chicago Sun Times also reported that both Rev. Meeks and Obama share a history of receiving substantial campaign contributions from the indicted real estate "criminal" Tony Rezko.

Aside from numerous other reports linking the two together, the real issue is the character of Rev. Meeks, who is known for his racially charged remarks and homophobic ways.

In a 2006 sermon, Rev. Meeks stated, "We don't have slave masters. We got mayors. But they still the same white people who are presiding over systems where black people are not able, or to be educated. You got some preachers that are house niggers. You got some elected officials that are house niggers. And rather than them trying to break this up, they gonna fight you to protect this white man." He later defended that sermon during an interview with a Chicago CBS 2 reporter.

Not to mention Rev. Meeks homophobic ways are well noted. A 2007 newsletter from the Southern Poverty Law Center named Rev. Meeks one of the "10 leading black religious voices in the anti-gay movement."

The newsletter cites him as a key member of Chicago's ‘Gatekeepers’ network (an interracial group of evangelical ministers who strive to erase the division between church and state) and “a stalwart anti-gay activist… [who]… has used his House of Hope mega-church to launch petition drives for the Illinois Family Institute (IFI), a major state-level ‘family values’ pressure group that lauded him last year for leading African Americans in ‘clearly understanding the threat of gay marriage.'”

You can tell a lot about a person by the company they keep!

Sad. Sad. Sad.

Quoting MrsKarynBey:

wow the way things have been going on and on about Wright etc, i thought i was the only one who felt that way!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
but does anyone care that McCain's "spiritual advisor" wants to start World War 3 in order to "bring about" prophecies?  or calls catholics a cult and says they are evil?  now that is scary.  (and that's not even to start on his homophobia!)  GEEZ!!!

Quoting prettypaws:

You know what really drives me crazy about stiff like this?
Who cares who he is friends with or whatever? I myself have no problems with homosexuals, neither dose my DH... His father on the other hand is EXTREAMLY homophobic?

Dose that mean we are ? No. It is one person's opinion. I hang out all the time with people that I disagree with on several subjects. That dose not make them or myself bad people.

This is one of the reasons why I hate politics. More in likely I will not be voting this year because all of these politicans that are running for president lie. This is how they get into office and then they will do what they want. I wouldn't belive anything any of them say unless you know 100% that it's true!

oh i get it now ... it's from 2004.  it must really be getting obvious that Obama has a viable message and many suporters, they are really starting to dig up stuff from ANCIENT HISTORY!!!!!!  ugh, what a disgrace.

i personally am glad to see that someone who feels humble enough to respect ANY person and try to get along, will be good for this country since we all seem to want to fight at the drop of a hat.  wouldn't it be nice if there was someone who is skilled at interacting with all types of people even if he doesn't agree with them?

oops sorry -- i was daydreaming -- (me and john lennon) ... imagine ....

Okay I am stating my opinion here.  I am sick of these political posts.  I am tired of seeing these candidate bashings on my homepage all the time.  Not one of these is going to change anyone's mind about which candidate they are supporting.  This does not change my opinion one way or the other.  I do not support Obama and never will but that is my choice.  I will not post negative things about him or Hilary.  I will not make those who support them feel like they are wrong in doing so.  I have too many other things to do than spend my time writing posts that are negative towards the candidates.  I feel like I have done my research and feel I have made the right choice for myself and my family and that is all that matters to me.  It is my opinion that most of our country's problems stem from the fact that we as American citizens argue and fight amongst ourselves too much.  We should all feel blessed that we live in a country where we have a choice.  We have the freedom to come to this site and post our views and opinions with no punishments.  We have a choice to vote for the candidate that most closely fits in with our views and values.  If we all had the same opinions and only one candidate to choose from doesn't that borderline on monarchy or worse?  What if you did not even have a say at all?  We all need to agree that we will never agree on everything and isn't it great that we can say that!  We have a common ground here and are united in being moms, grandmothers, daughters, sisters, and friends.  I know my statements here will not be shared by everyone.  I know I will probably get bashed and laughed at for stating them.  I have stayed out of these discussions for so long but finally felt the need to state my opinions.

To the original poster:  This is in no way meant to single you out for anything.  I am simply stating my thoughts.  You are certainly entitled to post whatever you want to inform others.  I hope that you do not get hit to harshly by your post.

Does anyone know a perfect politician?  Dig around long enough and you can find filth on all of them.  No one is going to post anything bad about McCain...he's not black and he's not a woman.  Let's just vote for the White male because we're used to it, but cry when he gets us blown the hell up and sends our sons to war INVOLUNTARILY!!!
