Songs you sing to your kids

I always sang my son "The Greatest" by Kenny Rogers when he was a baby to get him to sleep. Well, he's 4 1/2 now and I haven't sang to him in a while and he asked me to sing him a song last night at bed time. That's the song that I immediately thought to sing him but I couldn't for the life of me remember all of the words. I felt like an idiot and my son thought it was hilarious that I kept stumbling with the words. So I thought it would be fun to start this post for us all to post the lyrics to our favorite songs that we used to or still do sing to our kids.

The Greatest
   ------Kenny Rogers

Little boy in a baseball hat stands in the field with his ball and bat
Says, "I am the greatest player of them all"
Puts his bat on his shoulder and he tosses up his ball.
And the ball goes up and the ball comes down,
Swings his bat all the way around
The world so still you can hear the sound, the baseball falls to the ground.
Now the little boy doesn't say a word, picks up his ball he is undeterred.
Says, "I am the greatest that there has ever been"
And he grits his teeth and he tries again.
And the ball goes up and the ball comes down,
Swings his bat all the way around
The world so still you can hear the sound, the baseball falls to the ground.
He makes no excuses he shows no fear
He just closes his eyes and listens to the cheers.
Little boy he adjusts his hat, picks up his ball, stares at his bat
Says "I am the greatest when the game is on the line"
And he gives his all one last time.
And the ball goes up and the moon so bright
Swings his bat with all his might
The world's as still as still can be, the baseball falls
And that's strike three.
Now it's suppertime and his momma calls,
little boy starts home with his bat and ball.
Says, "I am the greatest, that is a fact,
But even I didn't know I could pitch like that!"

Says, "I am the greatest, that is understood,
But even I didn't know I could pitch that good!"

My mom used to sing this verse to me when I was little, now Zoey asks for it every night.

'Goodnight sweetheart, well its time to go
Goodnight sweetheart, well its time you know
I hate to leave ya but I really must go
Goodnight sweetheart, goodnight.'

The funny thing is that song STILL puts me to sleep!

Just because she calls me Mom does not mean I am going to stop being Jen

OMG, so many of them.  My kids and I are constantly singing...LOL

When they were babies I would sing, Baby Mine, You are my Sunshine, What a wonderful world....at bed time I would sing...Stay awake, countin' sheep, all the pretty horses.

I'm sure there are more that I am missing...but you've got a pretty good idea...LOL

We make up a lot of songs in our house...Really weird ones that make Alaina laugh hysterically. (for example: "Ooopie goopie, I'm a dancin' Snoopy!") But ones that have been a staple for lullaby or calming purposes:

1) What Child Is This?--Traditional Christmas Carol

2) It Came Upon A Midnight Clear--Traditional Christmas Carol

3) O, Little Town of Bethlehem--Traditional Christmas Carol

(Alaina was about 3 months old around her first Christmas, so I was singing these because they were seasonal. When I realized they put her to sleep, I just kept singing!)

4) Baby Beluga (Except when she was little, Her Granddaddy changed it to Baby Alaina. She learned her name that way and she smiles every time we sing it. Sometimes she sings with us.)

5) No One--Alicia Keys (This came out within our first two weeks at home from the hospital. I still cry when I sing it to her.)

6) Sweet Child O' Mine--Guns N Roses (Sounds crazy but come on! Read the lyrics http://www.elyrics.net/read/g/guns-n_-roses-lyrics/sweet-child-o_-mine-lyrics.html)

7) Unchained Melody--The Righteous Brothers (My Mom sung this to me when I was little.)
