Overactive gag reflex

Ok so I am wondering about my 3 yr old son's VERY active gag reflex.  It seems to be getting worse and I'm not sure what to make of it.  I've researched on webmed and such, and am getting no where.

He has ALWAYS gagged easily.  I thought he would out grow it.  Now he's to the point that if he gets a shirt to close to his neck when getting dressed he starts gagging.  He's also started not wanting to lay down while I'm dressing/undressing him b/c he says it hurts his neck??? I am totally at a loss.  He gags if he sees his little sister's boogies.  He gags if he gets food in his mouth he doesn't like.  He gags if his coat is zipped up too close to his neck.  Some times these gagging episodes DO lead to vomiting, but not usually.  If he tries to run and play shortly after eating or drinking, he gags and then he does vomit.

Is this something I should have checked out?  I know it's always worse when he's had a cold - so I'm assuming there must be some post nasal drip that's the real cause then.  But this new stuff with his clothes is really bothersome.  I really don't think he's faking.  He gets the weird saliva and drool when he gags, like he's getting ready to getting ready to barf, and then it usually stops.

Thoughts ladies???  Thanks.

I would definitely get that checked out, it may be something he out grows, but its not going to hurt to be sure!

Does he have relux? Now or as a baby?

I ask because my son has reflux and his gag reflex is so intense and he is so supper sensitive to textures in his mouth. When he is laid down to dress my sons reflux acts up more so he gets more upset.

He was never diagnosed as having reflux but in hindsight, and the fact that his little sister did have it, I'm pretty sure he had it as a baby.  Now, I don't think so.  I'm a VERY picky eater, so I don't pay too much attention to his food gags.  I hate to admit it but sometimes I have to really try not to laugh b/c he gags so easy!  Wrong I know.  He doesn't even eat candy, that's how picky he is.  Suckers he will lick a couple times and then is done.  He LOVE chocolate but that's it....anyway off topic.

That's what I needed to know...is it ok??  And I would say from the responses I've gotten, as I did post it in other groups too, it's not uncommon, just an annoyance for him....thanks for the response.
