Yes, I think I might have an std, and am freaking out!

A little back story. My fiance and I broke up a few months ago, and I he was the only person I had been with for the last 3 years until recently, and I've been tested within the last year, so I know I didn't have anything before. So I start hanging out with an ex of mine, his name is Dave, and we start dating again and hooking up. (sex, oral, all without a condom, I know I know, I'm on the pill though, and I thought he had been tested recently. still not an excuse not to wear a condom, I see that now, lol) So Dave (my current bf) is the only person that could have given me an std.

A couple weeks ago my throat starts hurting really bad and I had white spots on my tonsils, I go to the doctor thinking I have strep throat, but the test comes back negative for strep, so she said she thinks I have tonsillitis or mono, and gives me an antibiotic. I take all of the antibiotic and it seems to work, my throat didn't hurt anymore, but I now I still have white spots on my tonsils. I call my doctor again today and tell them the symptoms, and I'm going in tomorrow at 9:00 am to get checked out. You can get chlamydia or gonorrhea through oral sex, and I'm freaking out thinking I might have one of those. I told Dave he will probably have to get checked soon since apparently he hasn't been checked in like 2 years, and now he's freaking out (which he should be! lol) I'm just so mad at myself right now...

I just got my test results back from the doctor, and no STD's, I do have mono though, I guess it's better, lol.

  • Wow, that would suck.  But it still could be some unrelated virus....

  • Yeah I guess it could be mono, but that's still not much better, lol. Thanks though.

  • I agree with the PP.  It could be something else.  Keep your chin up.  I know it's scary and I'm sorry, hun.  You'll be ok.  I've never had an STD so I don't know what it's like.  I'd imagine it would feel icky and maybe a little like a violation.  I'm sorry, hun.  Keep us posted.

  • Don't freak out, officially, until you get the results from your doctor.  The tonsil's job in the body is to filter out germs, so there are a million things that could give you white spots on your tonsils.  Wait to see what the doc says, and proceed from there.  I wish you the best of luck!  :)

  • Does you throat look like this?

If so it's possible that it's just tonsilitis, or "tonsil stones".  I found this pic on the internet, but it's exactly what my throat looked like when I was 17 and had severe tonsilitis.  It started out with an occaisional really sore throat that kept getting worse and worse and looked pretty nasty.  I had to have my tonsils removed, but it was just a simple thing and I healed pretty quick.

  • I have already been treated for tonsilitis with antibiotics, that's what they thought I had the 1st time I went to the doctor.
