  • for myself i only use male ob/gyn's, but don't really care who sees me as a pcp. i'd prefer a male, but i usually see the female phys asst when i go, no biggee. my kids have a female dr & she seems to be more patient & caring. they have seen a few of the male dr's in the office on days when she wasn't there & i didn't like any of them. they've been seeing her since they were born & they both love her. she has 5 kids of her own so i really think she better understands what it's like to be a mom of sick kids.

  • I really don't have a preference, I guess. It's all about the individual doctor. I've heard different opinions about male doctors and female doctors. I'm not sure one gender is statistically more or less understanding or gentle... I've seen 3 gyn's in my lifetime. A male and female were partners in the same office and I saw both of them a couple of times. I didn't have insurance for a while and when I became pregnant the first time, I was recommended to a man that I think is a wonderful doctor, gentle, humorous, caring, warm, knowledgeable, patient... I'm just really happy with him.

  • I use a midwife for OB/GYN, who is wonderful and generally prefer the female OB's in the practice. They were just more connected, maybe because they had "been there" themeselves.

for a general practioner I like the concept of a female doctor. I haven't yet found one that I've really liked. Recently DH and I both got really sick. He called his doc and got in right away. Got better. I called my doc and was told that I would have to wait until Monday (it was Wed.) I called DH's doc and am now going to him. He was kind, caring and full of advice that was worth hearing.  So now I go to him.

  • I don't really care.  I had my daughters in 2 different states and both groups of OBGYN had male and females, mostly male and you had to see everyone because you didn't know who would deliver your baby.  When I went to the hospital to be induced for my oldest one guy was on call.  Then a female came on duty and she delivered her.

My 2nd the rudest Dr. was on call and somewhere around midnight another Dr. came on call and he delivered her the next morning.

  • I always use a female doctor. My women doctors can relate to me better and I feel more comfortable with them.

  •  My primary care and my ob/gyn will always be female. I'll deal with male specialists, or ER visits, etc. but I prefer female doctors.

  • I've had both female and male doctors for everything and I really don't care who I see as long as they are competent.  My ob with my DD was female and she was very cold, standoffish, and just not friendly.  My ob with my twins is male and he is very friendly and caring.  I was in the hospital a couple of days before my twins were born (they came 12 weeks early) and my doctor came to see me everyday.  I had my twins on a Friday night and he called me over the weekend to see how I was doing since I had a c-section.  I've had better experience with males doctors than female.

  • It really doesn't matter to me. Growing up, I had a male doctor. My first ob/gyn was a male. When he moved out of state, I switched to a female ob/gyn. I don't care either way.

My son goes to a ped's office that has rotating doctors (basically you see whoever happens to be there and available at that time). There's 3 males and one female, and none of them bother me either.

  • As far as the doctors I personally have seen in my lifetime, all the females have been flat out rude.  There have been some rude male doctors, too, but the ones I stick with are the ones I like.  I have seen a female nurse practioner whom I liked.
