  • And I heard that the 9.5% number doesn't include those people whose unemployment benefits have run out but they still don't have a job (like my BIL) so I think the overall job situation is even worse than what's  being reported.

The news says it's going to hit 10% next month. I hope it does get better for anyone who is struggling.

i think that is the only way its really effected us, SO got laid off due to the economy. but  hes working with his dad now, making more $ then he was before. so other then that we still do everything we did before.

It's not . But after seeing that unemployment is 9.5% that's scary.

  • We are doing fine except for our house not selling when we moved.  We have been renting it out, but this is the second month in a row our tenants have been late with their rent so it's really stressful because if they don't pay the rent, we can't pay the mortgage.  It's been over a year since we moved and foreclosure was never an option for us, so we might have to evict them and try to sell it again.  If it wasn't for that house, we would be better than ever.

  •  Last year at this time I had 6 children in my daycare.  Since then 2 families have had a parent get laid off and this summer I am down to 2 kids.  After paying necessary bills we have $60.00 left to buy groceries and pay for gas for the week.  I've had to cancel cable :(

  • Honestly...over the last couple of months we have gotten BETTER. We used to be negative in our account, hardly able to make rent or buy groceries, etc, etc....we're caught up on all our bills except for one now, and we have a little extra left over. I don't know how long it will last, but thats how it is right now. We still dont have enough money to buy a house, or a new car, but we can at least afford to buy something we want instead of need now. We're usualy pretty smart shoppers, we buy as little as possible of what we need, buy generic or off-brands, don't eat out hardly at all, and when we do its McDonald's dollar menu.

  • It hasn't effected us personally but it does make us more aware of how we spend our money and what we save.

  • We are much more cautious with our money, and we've cancelled trips and planned purchases for the near future. We are significantly worried, and have also cut everything possible out of the budget- we were considering a private school for one of our children and have now decided against it due to finances, as well as cancelling extras like dance, gymnastics, swim team etc. to avoid the costs associated.

We are very blessed that we are still doing so well- many we know have lost homes, jobs, it's awful and scary- I hope things start to turn around soon for everyone who feels this economy squeezing them.

  •  I lost my job LAST February, have found a very parttime job and am barely making it. I have foodstamps and medicaid for my son and I. One good thing came of unemployment, I was eligible for the Dislocated Worker Program and the State of Wisconsin is paying for 2  years of tuition and books at a technical college. Hopefully, by the time I am done, the economy will be better and I can get a real job with benefits that pays enough for me to pay my bills, save money and move out of the losey neighborhood that I live in.

  • it is keeping us from making an investment in buying a home because we can't be sure we will maintain employment.
