I know I'm opening a can of worms......

....but this so sickens me. I can't even begin to understand why anyone would have a python, pitt bull etc. when they have children.  Now before you start bashing, I do realize that the odds of a python getting out and strangling a baby, or a loving pitt bull (or any other dog) viciously attacking, are slim. I understand that NOT ALL of them are like that, but what bothers me is that you just can not know for sure.  And why would anyone even take that chance?  Don't our children's lives and safety mean more to us than a pet?  If not, shouldn't they??  So sad...

***EDIT***  For those of you giving utterly ridiculous answers.... I am not saying nobody should have pets. I'm not even saying you shouldn't have dogs or snakes!  I'm saying, why a dog that's KNOWN for it's vicious behaviour? Why a snake that's capable of squeezing the life out of your child?

And yes I know there are potential dangers around every corner and even in our own homes, but that doesn't mean we add to them. We don't let our kids play with matches just because there's a chance the house could burn down anyway. We don't let our children play with guns just because there's a chance of somebody breaking in and shooting us anyway. We don't invite a child molester to stay the night with us just because there's a chance of them being molested at some point in their lives anyway.  Shall I go on?  How fricken dumb!

Wow. Have you ever had a pet? Loved a pet as a child? My daughter loves our dog, Izzy. I trust her (the dog) with Crickett completely.

When you drive there is always a chance of getting in a wreck, but you never know for sure. Should we all stop driving cars?

probably about the same chances of getting into a car wreck with your child in the car

the house catching on fire after you burned dinner

your child drowning in the bathtub

theres chances you take everyday.....

i'm actually more worried about what the stranger we're walking down the street with might do.

i'm actually more worried about sending them to school, because well, look at all the violence there.

i'm actually even more worried about going to church, people seem to be winding up dead there too.

i'm actually more worried about going to the mall.  look at all the shootings there.

i am worried about HUMANS.  a dog is the very least of my problems.

but thanks for your concern.  it's greatly appreciated.

dogs are my people.  i fight for them, i cry for them, i pray for them, i help them, i talk to them, i rescue them, i hug them, i love them, i raise their spirits, i bring them back to life, i foster, i adopt, i put the worthless 2 legged beings who abuse and neglect them behind bars.  i am their halo, and they are mine.

PLEASE....have a heart, adopt, do not support backyard breeders or pet stores who sell puppies, do not sell your animals on craiglist...they are not the old sofa, spay and neuter, report animal abuse, donate, volunteer your time, obey laws, teach your children respect towards animals, do your part in the fight against animal cruelty.

take a look at this.

this is what WE do to THEM.

and yes, unfortuately there are irresponsible pet owners, but please do not put us all in the same category.  some of us are smart.

Of course I have. And as for trusting them completely....I doubt that these people who these tragic things happen to, didn't completely trust their animal.

I agree with you. I would never have a python(or a regular snake for that matter) around my kids.

i do not trust my dogs completely, never have, never will.  they are dogs, animals.  we cannot assume they will react as human beings because they are not.  which is why i take ever precaution necessary to ensure the safety of my children, and my dogs.
