....but this so sickens me. I can't even begin to understand why anyone would have a python, pitt bull etc. when they have children. Now before you start bashing, I do realize that the odds of a python getting out and strangling a baby, or a loving pitt bull (or any other dog) viciously attacking, are slim. I understand that NOT ALL of them are like that, but what bothers me is that you just can not know for sure. And why would anyone even take that chance? Don't our children's lives and safety mean more to us than a pet? If not, shouldn't they?? So sad...
***EDIT*** For those of you giving utterly ridiculous answers.... I am not saying nobody should have pets. I'm not even saying you shouldn't have dogs or snakes! I'm saying, why a dog that's KNOWN for it's vicious behaviour? Why a snake that's capable of squeezing the life out of your child?
And yes I know there are potential dangers around every corner and even in our own homes, but that doesn't mean we add to them. We don't let our kids play with matches just because there's a chance the house could burn down anyway. We don't let our children play with guns just because there's a chance of somebody breaking in and shooting us anyway. We don't invite a child molester to stay the night with us just because there's a chance of them being molested at some point in their lives anyway. Shall I go on? How fricken dumb!

Well, I guess if your 11 yr old is dumb enough to stick his head in the tank and inhale deeply, then yes, you probably should.
Wow, Did you just call my 11yo dumb? My 11yo is wise beyond his years, he would never do that, He has more common sense in his pinky finger than you do your whole damn body.
and as for "Mature responses" Yeah you should look at yourself for that one, that was very immature what you said.

Better watch out, my full grown python is hungry and looking for blood. His head is an inch long, but I just know he's going to eat my baby.
Beautiful snake, My Middle son wants a corn snake, and my youngest wants a lizard. OH NO I better be careful who knows what they will do!

Thanks, his name is Snakey lol.

It's all on how the dogs are raised...
I wouldn't trade my dog for the world (however, he is a Great Pyrenees/Golden Retriever mix but we have had a pit mix). He's protective of me and my family. Won't let anyone he knows NEAR my kids unless I call to him. However my kids can roll all over him, tug at his hair (though we do teach them that's not nice!)... Sweetest thing in the world and listens like you wouldn't believe!
Raise them right. Train them right. Teach your KIDS how to treat them right (that's right, the KIDS! There are so many kids who treat animals poorly and then the animal gets fed up and THAT'S when something is likely to happen). Might something still happen? Sure, there's ALWAYS a chance. However, don't blame the breed. Blame the one(s) who raised it.
As for snakes...my hubby had a ball python. Got it when it was a baby. I myself wasn't crazy about it but that was because I didn't want my kids going around our yard picking up any ol' snake. We eventually got rid of it...and I personally wouldn't get another. Those who do have one, need to make absolute sure every precaution is taken to ensure the safety of their loved ones.

Lemme guess Kids named him?D has already decided he is naming his snake "Anakin" UGH! I am trying to steer him away but its not working,

ball pythons(like the one pictured) are not the type of pythons that get out and squeeze a baby. I am sure the OP is talking about the big ones

It doesn't matter either way, that was neglect on the ADULT's Part, don't blame the snake, he was just doing what naturally comes to him. If the ADULT in that house would have been paying attention that never would have happened.

Thank you. Yes, I was talking about the big ones.

True. I have 2 cats that my baby really wants to grab lol. It's my job as the parent to keep her away from the animals so that she doesn't hurt them and so they don't bite/claw her face off. Any pet can be dangerous. A baby/small child could drown in a fish tank, a cat could bite/claw a kid to bits, the family wiener dog could get sick of having it's tail pulled and bite. It's my job to make sure that I keep my kids away from the cats and their litter boxes and it's my job to keep the locks on my snakes tank, even though the cats have never attacked and the snake does nothing but sleep in a ball.
