I am not that bad a cook I swear. But every time I bring (or try to bring) something to my fiancees family's events, they dont eat it.

I made chocolate crinkles first (betty crocker recipe, only I make them bigger than it calls for so that they are larger cookies) and have brought them to a few events. No one ever ate any on his side but they are always gone on my family's side so they can't be that bad. I have also had non family members ask for the recipe. I know his family eats chocolate too, so that isn't it.

So for the 4th tomorrow I was going to make rainbow jello. It is a big bash over there where neighbors, friends, etc all come. I dont really like jello but this is pretty cool, it is more solid and looks neat...it also tastes better than regular jello. Even though I know some adults don't like jello I figured that it would be something that the kids would like, and this is another recipe that others outside of his family really enjoyed. Well my fiancee calls his dad and mentions it and I could tell his dad was less than thrilled and even asked if that was all I was making. He was disappointed there wouldnt be liquor in it. I asked my fiancee if I should still make it and he said "its up to you" like he didnt think anyone would eat it but didnt want to hurt my feelings.

So I give up!! I try to bring things and its hurtful to have noses silently snubbed at what I bring. I would be more than willing to bring what they tell me but every time I ask they say "just bring whatever" or something like that. I dont want to make it now because my feelings are hurt but I dont want to show up empty handed because then I look like a jerk. Another part of me wants to bring it and hope it does well with the families that show up to the party.

What should I do?

Here's a picture of the jello from the site I got the recipe from:

UPDATE:

So I made the jello and brought it, and my SO brought his jello shots. His jello shots were placed on the table outside where everyone was and mine was put inside, but I didnt mind because there were only appetizers out at that point. Some kids even went inside because they found out there was jello, which lifted my spirits.

It was a very rainy day here so they had three tents with awnings up. People started bringing out food (I couldnt help with this because I was carrying my 14 month old). My jello stayed in the house. Or so I thought. I assumed they were using it as a dessert dish. It turns out someone had brought it outside and placed it on a table out in the rain instead of on a table under one of the tents. Pretty harsh and somewhat hurtful, because by the time I found out my jello was drenched. But I could tell some of it was eaten, so at least the kids enjoyed it for a little while :(

  • Burn some macaroni and cheese on purpose, take it with, and maybe they'll think twice when they want to bitch about what you bring. LOL!

  • The Rainbow Jello looks NEAT!

    Make it!

Maybe it means that you are pretty.

I was invited to my husband's house for a Thanksgiving potluck & I brought Chocolate cake. No one was eating my cake until his nephew in HS got a piece. He said "This is the best & most moist chocolate cake I have ever had."

Then everyone else started eating it. My husband's uncle then informed me that pretty girls aren't supposed to know how to cook. LOL

I don't know about the pretty part but I am smart enough to read a cake box.

    LOL

Good luck. Don't let it get you down. Make the Jello :)

  • I would pick something up from the store & say here. I would not waste my time & effort on them anymore. I also would not be making Jello shots for someone who acts ungrateful
