Hello ladies!
I'm new to this site. My husband has just decided to quit college and start a truck driving career. I'm a little nervous because in a way, I feel I'm losing my husband and I'm worried my kids are going to miss their dad.
Anyway, we need some help! Up to this point, we have had no cell phones because we wanted to save as much money as possible! But now that he's planning on being on the road, we need to be connected at all times. We have no idea which provider to get our phones through. Can anyone recommend a service provider that seems to offer good coverage all over the US?
Thanks!
Becca
We use Verizon. I've been on my moms plan for a few years, so she pays for mine.. but we have 4 lines, and 2 of those with internet and our bill is like $200/month.. anyways my husband has service with Verizon. (its not on my moms), He has a blackberry, and he has unlimited date package, and he tethers internet (thru blue tooth, or USB cord) to his laptop so he can use it for internet. His bill is $123.99 every month.. (that's after taxes/fees whatever) he never talks, except to me, or his work, so he only has 450 minutes, and it works well (our m2m is free, he also has unlimited texting.)
when my hubby went over the road, we didn't have cell service, so we go the next best thing...prepaid. it worked for us because we, too, were on a budget. we chose verizon, though, now I would probably go with something like virgin mobile. any of them as long as you have the same service should have unlimited mobile to mobile. I think we chose verizon because of their service map. but definitely check out virgin, because it's unlimited minutes for about $60 bucks a month per phone, where verizon was just mobile to mobile. it was the best way for us to stay in touch
My boyfriend has Sprint, and it seems to get pretty good coverage. When he's in the states that aren't that populated, like the Dakotas or Wyoming, he'll drop the calls more frequently, but usually he's got pretty good service. He has unlimited minutes, unlimited texting, and he uses an aircard to get online. I can't remember how much he pays for it, though, but I don't think it's that expensive, maybe $100 or so a month.
We use Sprint and I love it and the price is good. We also used tmobile it was really good but I think it cost a lot more
We've had Verizon for 10 years now and with the exception of my Grandmothers house, Rich has had very little issues with signal. Like people have said before...it all depends on the phone you have. Crappy phones have crappy signal. We have a family plan that is $115/month including taxes, texting ($5/phone) and a data package ($10) for 1 of the phones. We split 750 minutes a month and have 250 text messages each...plus the unlimited minutes to anyone who has Verizon (which is everyone in our family). $115 sound like a lot of money but Rich's work reimburses us $40 a month because we don't use the work provided phones (they are crap). It's all in what you can budget...Verizon also has pre-paid phones that I here are really good deals, which is nice because you don't have to go through the credit check & security deposit that is required for the contract phones.
Thanks everyone!
My husband is waiting to see if he gets a pre-hire offer from Roehl, Werner, and Swift. If those all come back with offers, then his school will try to get a pre-hire from TMC, Schneider, and Transport America. Can anyone tell me anything about these companies? Which is best?
I have to be honest....Werner's not that great, at least after you've been there for a while. My boyfriend just left Werner to go to Heartland, after like 5 years (1.5 as a company driver, the rest as an o/o.). He says after the first couple of payraises, they will start starving you out. And they have like NO miles. He was literally working for nothing. Often, he was owing them money for the privilege of hauling their load. I had to push him hard to get him to leave, b/c he went to work for them with visions of retiring with them. But he was getting nowhere, and had a truck payment. Now he's with Heartland, and much much happier and making considerably more money. But they do require at least a year experience.
He says a good company for a newbie is Stevens (or Stephens? not sure on the spelling). He says a friend of his went with them and was very very pleased.
Swift is all right, but not that great.
Wendy
