White Kitchen Cabinets?

Do you have them? Do you love them, hate them, are they just OK? Please tell me why.

My husband & I are completely renovating our house near the beach. I want it to be a comfy retreat for company. My colors throughout the house will be blues/turquoise, yellows, corals.  Our dishes are FiestaWare & we will have some glass front cabinets, so their colors will show. The kitchen walls will be a butter yellow. I really lean towards white cabinets because I like the clean, fresh look they have.  I am concerned about keeping them clean.

If not white, what would you suggest?

Thanks for your help!

I like white cabinets- so the work involved in cleaning them  is OK.  I had laminate ones and I thought they we more difficult to keep cleand than the ones I have now that are painted with a good gloss paint then a top coat of poly.

I have them. They are painted in semi-gloss and poly (i think). And i don't find it any harder then other i have had. In fact, you see it easier so it gets wiped up sooner. They wipe really easy..so i just use my sponge or rag from the dishes..and wipe it away. Easy.

I don't like mine because they don't give the look i am looking for in my house. but i think for a beach look they are perfect! Sounds like they are made for your house.

I like my white cabinets, but they do show smudges. I just spot clean them as needed, and every few weeks give them all a good wipe down. White sounds like it would work best with your color scheme.

Personally, I dont care for white cabinets. I like wood... natural, color... maple or cherry. But I have seen some Beautiful white cabinets... so anything goes...
But for your beach house, I would do something easy to clean- easily taken care of- so you can spend more time ON the beach then IN the house.

I have maple cabinets in my home, but if I ever get the chance to build a new home, we will have white kitchen cabinets. Sorry, I don't have any advice for you.

I have white in my house and they are not hard to clean.  You do see the dirt easier than with other cabinets but as soon as I see it I just grab a damp rag and wipe it right up.  I have to wipe them a lot but I think that has more to do with the fact that I have five boys then it has to do with my cabinets being white.

For a beach retreat, white is fine but I do prefer a maple or light wood cabinet. Just more marketable when it's time to sell. They also tend to appear more pricey, even when they're not.

Below is the latest thing I've seen in kitchens where the mix the woods. Maple cabinets, white island, etc.  White alone, if not done right, can just look too sterile.

We don't plan to sell so not worried about resale value. We will spend our retirement years there & Mike's daughter has been promised the house when we are gone. I know what you mean about white sometimes looking sterile but I'm concerned about that either. The walls will have color and with our FiestaWare showing through the glass front cabinets, there will be plenty of color!
I will definitly have painted & poly after reading your suggestions, you have no idea how that has helped make that decision. The nice thing about paint & poly is that we can do them ourselves, saving some money to be better spent elsewhere (like on the deck & hot tub off the master bedroom...LOL)

                                     thank you

for all your input, all of you have been very helpful.

I like white cabinets, we have talked about doing ours that way.
