Can someone explain the differences between the different decorating styles?
I am new to the whole decorating thing. I have only lived in 2 apts the last 10 yrs and I am ready to buy a house. I am a little intimidated by the whole decorating thing. The problem is I dont know the differences between modern, contemparary, chic, etc. Can someone help me get an idea of my own style? Or does anyone know of a good website that gives decorating styles of each so that I can get my own personal opinion? Thank you!!!
If i were you and just starting to put together a style, I would clip and save images of things you like. Once you start getting a collection of images, you can start to pick out what it is you really like and what your style is.

Flip through online photo galleries: http://www.hgtv.com/designers-portfolio/room/contemporary/home-offices/3628/index.html and http://room-galleries.myhomeideas.com/pictures/index.html. A lot less expensive than buying a bunch of decorating magazines! The rooms are divided by style, so you'll soon find out what you are drawn to. Have fun!
Try exploring some of these sites that have a quiz - they show you pictures then describe your favorite style with decorating tips. That should help you identify what you really like and give you some terms to throw around (or to use for online searches).

Just start going to the books store, library, and look through books and magazines.
