Update on my mom

I thought some of you may like an update on my mom so I wanted to put it in a new thread. My mom had her surgery last Tuesday and is recovering well at home. Prior to her surgery, her CT scan showed some concern to the doctor, but luckily things weren't quite as bad as what the doctor predicted. My mom did have a tennis ball sized cancerous tumor embedded in her uterus. The doctor was afraid that her ovaries were going to show cancer, but everything found in her ovaries was benign. Due to the size of the tumor and how far it had penetrated into the muscle of the uterus, she is most likely going to have to go through radiation. It is unclear at this point if her lymph nodes are safe or not. During her hysterectomy, the doctors said they felt no need to remove any for biopsy, however the pathology report states that there is likely to be lymph node involvement due to the location and size of where the tumor was located.

I am taking her to get her staples removed tomorrow. We will have our first follow up appointment with the oncologist in a couple of weeks. She has to be fully recovered from surgery before starting any further treatments.

Thank you to everyone who sent up a prayer! We aren't out of the woods yet, but hopefully will be soon!

Another update, my mom will start radiation treatments at the end of this month. She will have treatments 5 days a week for 5 weeks, and the will hopefully be considered cancer free!

Glad to hear your mother is doing well. I did not read original post. If I may what were her symptoms that she had to go to the doctor or was it in a routine check up. What age is your Mom?

My mom is 58, she hadn't been to gyno for YEARS! Seriously, not since 1979, a year after my younger sister was born. She had a lot of abdominal pain and discomfort that had gotten so bad she couldn't get out of bed. She also didn't believe she ever went through menopause due to her symptoms. I finally made her appointment with my dr. Her tumor was 8cm long, a normal uterus is 12 cm in length (for those of us in the US, 4 cm is about 1 inch). I had a hysterectomy 2 years ago, and am thankful that I did!
