Ladies I was thinking about doing a dark cherry for my bottom cabinets and light oak stain for my top cabinets -> would this look bad?
also our formal dining room is connected with our kitchen... what type of floor would you suggest we put down for these two rooms with these cabinets?
i was thinking more like...

have the frame be stained one color and the doors be stained another. i dont know if i'd stain one whole section (bottom) one color and the (top) another because to me, it would look like...well...like you bought mismatched cabinets from somewhere used.
I used grey ceramic tiles for our dining/kitchen since ours joins too. when your staining a cherry color i would watch your choice of color for flooring.
I would match the floor to the lighter cabinet color.

I would match the floor to the lighter cabinet color.
My first thought to the oak/cherry was uh!uh! but the bottom pic is gorgeous. Maybe the trick is not so much one on bottom, one on top as it is mixing the two. Our old house we had alder with a med stain and the island, crown, and light rail was maple with a dark stain - cappucino I think - and I loved it. I guess I'm not really a huge fan of oak, think it was years of living with '70's and '80's golden oak kitchens.
It's not me, it's the rest of the world!

I think doing trim in a lighter color is okay, but not top and bottom different colors
I love 2 different colors of cabinets in the kitchen! I say go for it! :) I have honey oak color cabinets with ebony stained crown, bottom trim and the peninsula cabinets.
I would go with tile for flooring just because i hate wood in kitchens.
I hate wood in kitchens too... though if we decide to go with the wood look we will probably look at the wood lenolium sticky strips.
I'm not a big favor of stone in the kitchen... reminds me of some old manor or castle... won't match the rest of the house :/
I don't like the traditional lenolium because I think it looks cheap unless you find the perfect one. However I would be open to trying the sticky square lenolium tiles... though I have YET to find one that I like, we are currently using the parkay looking square lenolium tiles and they look great but not only am I wanting something different but it also seems as though the market is slowly turning against that.
I really don't like the light colored cabinets either... or white... my parents had them for years. :/
I think we have decided to go with the dark cherry wood (I LOVE the color) but I am not yet certain about the floor. we are also thinking about a LIGHT green/yellow color for the walls and this backsplash
any idea for the floor? we have a galley kitchen by the way. open on one end and the back door at the other... about 4 1/2 feet wide between the Cabinets
I like different color top and bottom cabinets in a paint color, but not in a stain....but, that's me. I like to keep my wood tones similar. I painted my oak cabinets, black. I'm thinking of painting them again....white for the top cabinets, grey for the bottom.
We are looking into cork floors, when we redo our kitchen. Resilient, from what I've read.
I think we may go with linolium wood plank sticky tile... I stray away from porcelin or ceramic on the floors because of all the cutting too lol. However I would LOVE the porcelin tiles that look like hardwood..... just not within our budget :)
