Here is the next post in our "Show Us" threads. I will be posting a different thread for family rooms, so try to keep this one to livingrooms only. If you don't have both a family and living room, choose which category you think your room fits best.

I have showed this on another site on cafemom, but here it goes. Wont bother showing the befores, as it was yuk! We still need to replace the carpeting, at least it hides everything. But put in new windows, and painted a very pale green on 3 walls, and a butterscotch on the entrance wall.

I have so many important people in my life, but there is always room for more!
I will post pics of my living room. This room sat empty for quite awhile when we first moved in because we didn't have any furniture to put in it. I didn't have curtains on the windows for 3 years! For a long time it was just an area rug (which is going to be replaced at some point, this one was left over and not being used anywhere) with a couch (after 2 years of being a rooms with nothing in it). Gradually we have inherited the other pieces in the room. My inlaws had an old Victrola sitting in their basement that they had refurbished and gave to me one year for my birthday. We also inherited my hubby's grandmother's buffet and drop leaf table (which serves as my sofa table, but comes in handy for large family dinners), the chair by the fireplace (which is my DD "naughty chair") was one my in laws were going to throw out so I took it - it may not really go with anything but I don't care:) In the first pic, you can kind of the see the harlequin pattern painted on the wall - pain in the butt project but I love how it turned out!

This is the original wood burning fireplace with the original marble surround. We use it a lot in the winter - which is mainly the only time we use our living other, other than when all of the family is here for family dinners.

Here is ours. Our living room is like 27x13....so I feel very limited as to what we can do with our furniture and HUGE tv that hubby "HAD" to have! We have done alot of buying / rearranging since the last time I posted. We still haven't repainted, I KNOW I KNOW! BUT, I finally got real drapes!

Oy, I need to clean that glass! And that cord is only there for my laptop.

Sorry about Diego....and the beagle!

As always, love Love LOVE it! I love the texture on your wall and want to do that to mine :-) And, how brave of you to put your couch in the middle of the room. You're soo clever ;-)
I hope you're proud of this room, it's beautiful! :-)

Here is my living room. There are a few things I am not happy with....maybe everyone here can give me some advice. First, I am going to change the rug. It is not my style...I ordered something more contemporary...its striped with brown, cream, sage green (like on the accent wall), and blue. Also, I hate my curtains. I would much rather hang a decorative rod, rather than a curtain rod, but I cant because the one window is so close to the corner wall. I tried and it didnt work. I am thinking about just getting some chocolate brown valances and taking the sheers off. What do you thin? There are already white wooden blinds hanging. Anyways, we moved here 3 yrs ago and there was carpet. I got the hardwoods installed as a bday present last year... also in the kitchen, too! Please feel free to give me some advice!

These pictures were taken at different times and different arrangments.

The rug actually looks better than it looks in this picture. However I am reeeal tired of the green. I am really wanting some new furniture eventually.

meme2003 I love the wood floor in the living room. A great splash of color would really go well in here. I can't really tell on my computer the colors in the sofa pillows? Also what color is on the window panels?? Is it more browns, or dark burgandy tones??
Yes, you have a great base on the room. The extra wall art you add will really tie it all together.
One suggestion I would think about, is when hanging your wall art up, might want to put it down alittle lower. About 12 inches above the back of sofa. This way it draws the eyes to the rest of the furniture, instead of the ceiling. Just IMO.......

Sudster40plus:
The color of the curtains are a chocolate brown and the couch pillows are the same as the couch. I just recently bought two pillows for the love seat that have lighter yellow, gold and tan colors to them. They made a difference.Yeh I had my husband helping me hang the mirror and the two metal pieces and yes they were hung to high. I wanted to lower the mirror but since it was so heavy it needed a hook that could up to 100lbs and I knew if I were to take it out I would be patching a hole. So what I thought I would do is put something really small and simple under the mirror maybe something scroll like that would hold candles and put it a few inches under the mirror. And than the two metal pieces I wanted to put something on each side of those. I had found these really long candle sconces that have similar curves to those in the rugs and side tables and they have a gold tone and I thought i could put them there but make sure the bottom of them was lower than the art. Do you think that would work? I posted the picture of the sconce.
