Show us your living room!

Posted by   + Show Post

Here is the next post in our "Show Us" threads. I will be posting a different thread for family rooms, so try to keep this one to livingrooms only. If you don't have both a family and living room, choose which category you think your room fits best.

Ok, this is mine, but it is far from what I want it to be. My plans in the next couple of months are to:

1. Paint! (I hate the paneling).

2. New furniture. (long overdue)

3. Curtains.

4. New television.

We have been here a little over a year, & I started painting bedrooms first & am working my way to the front of the house. I won't buy curtains, until I paint & decide what will go best.

This is from the other side. I didn't have the love seat on that side yet. I moved around at Christmas to accommodate the Christmas tree & decided I liked the love seat better on this side. Laundry room is behind the doors, which I have already painted.

The color of furniture I want is a medium beige/brown & I want to pull color from the pictures over the couch. They were my Grandmothers pictures & I want to keep them up.

I want to lighten & brighten up the space, because it is small & too dark with all of the wood paneling, but I want darker furniture because of the kids.

Any suggestions on paint colors to use?

I will post after pics as soon as the makeover is done.

The living rooms in the replies are lovely.

There is a living room on here with the color I am thinking of using. It was posted by jene26. The green color on her wall is what I am thinking of doing.

I've got the Beach Theme going thru the house..this is living room.

I did have gray curtains in the living room; but today I changed them to alternating gray & cream.  The gray matches the couch, chair etc. plus the cream makes the room look bigger.  It works great for Spring & upcoming Summer by adding lighter colors in!  (not the best pic, it's dark in here, oops)

Is your fireplace electric? Does it make it awkward to watch TV with it at that height?

Quoting decor42:

 Our family room. Simply decorated.

The other side of the room. I have sconces, a shelf and some wall pockets yet to hang.  I am also looking for an area rug with animal print, a new lampshade ottomon/coffee table and stand.

A picture of the LR.  Again I have changed every thing out in this room with new aside from the pair of paprika wing back chairs, carpet and a few accessories.  This room has had some changes since I took the pictures.

This wall art has been changed out to a larger horizontal piece.  I have sconces and a few other canvas art pieces to add to this wall.  I will be changing out the lampshades to rectangular. The lamps themselves have been given many makeovers in the years that I have had them.  Currently they are a bronze with copper and a burnt red dry brushed on.

Simple fall decorating.  There is nothing on this wall (still) above the fireplace. I have the artwork but havent had the time to hang it.  Also, my tables now have NOTHING on them since I removed the fall decor.

I still have not been able to figure out the color saturation on my camera. The sewing machine was my husbands grandmothers.  I had the base wire brushed, repainted and a piece of mahogany added for the top a few years ago. The plant stand behind the chair is now in the DR corner with a fern on it. The large picture that was above the sofa is now on this wall.  Also looking for an area rug. I was looking at the Carolina Wild at Lowes but they have sold out. I change out my curtains and pillows several times during the year.  As I have aged I have learned to truly appreciate that less is more. I just do not have the time required to maintain all of the "pretties" so I have eliminated some of them. I am looking forward to getting these rooms done so that I can move on to my bedroom.
