Grocery prices are getting worse so I figured this could be a way to help each other out. Would you please let us all know what your cheapest meal is and if possible how you make it?

One that I can think of is spaghetti.
spaghetti noodles
hamburger meat
spaghetti sauce
can of diced tomatoes

Boil noodles, brown meat, heat sauce & tomatoes together. Drain meat and mix w/ sauce. Serve w/ garlic bread if desired.

Pasta is really our cheapest meal.  We will sometimes only put butter and a sprinkle of parmeasan cheese on there.  Most of the time we use 1/2 lb of ground turkey in the cheap-o (or on sale good stuff) spaghetti sauce.  The best is when we make our own pasta, so we can actually flavor the noodles how we want them, and then a simple sauce over the top goes a long way.

The cheapest meal I can think of at the moment would have to be sloppy joes. You just get some meat and the way I make it you just add ketchup which I know we always have on hand and half a can or so cream of mushroom soup!
My hubby loves grilled cheese and tomato soup, that is extra cheap!

Fettucine Alfredo is sort of cheap.
Fettucine noodles
Heavy cream
Parmesean cheese (the fresher the better)

Boil noodles. Heat together the cream and cheese. Drain pasta and mix together. Add garlic, chicken, or shrimp if desired but not necessary.

It is in the grocery store by the milks, creamers, half & half, etc. It is a thick milk like product. It is also how you make whipped cream (homemade). You just add sugar to the heavy cream and beat until soft peaks form. (don't overbeat) I don't blame you for asking b/c I am the same way. You can't learn something new if you don't ask. LOL

 White Bean Dip

Take a can of white beans and smash them on a plate with a fork.
Drizzle with a little EVOO, add a little salt and pepper.
Place in Microwave for 1 minute.

Spread on crackers, or french bread. Add a salad, and some fruit, and you've got a meal.

We, as parents are the first teachers of our own children. Not all parents have PH.D's in education, but all parents have something which no mere teacher can ever give: parental love. Parental love, by its very nature qualifies a parent to teach their own children. A stranger can never obtain the depth of patience, kindness, goodness, service, and self-sacrifice of a parent-teacher.

I found this recipe.  Mix the lentels with elbow pasta.

  • 1-1/2 cups lentils
  • 1-1/2 quarts of tap water (6 cups)
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon pepper
  • 3 tablespoons olive oil
  • 15 oz can tomatoes
  • 1 large onion, chopped
  • 1 tablespoon minced garlic
  • 1/2 teaspoon basil (optional)

Get out a large stew pot. Put the lentils in it, and add the water. You can wash the lentils first in a colander if you like, they do sometimes have a little dirt in them, so rinsing them is a good idea. Then put the clean lentils in your big pot (4-quart size) and add the tap water. Bring the lentils to a boil and simmer them on the back of the stove for about an hour. They should be nice and soft, if they aren't then cook them a little longer, until they taste soft enough to you.

Now get out an iron skillet or another type of frying pan. Heat the olive oil in the skillet over medium high heat. Add the onion and garlic. Quickly sauté the onions and garlic until they become tender and translucent. This should only take a couple of minutes. Then add the tomatoes and basil. Bring to a slow boil, and simmer for a few minutes.

Meanwhile, add the salt and pepper to the lentils. When the tomatoes and onions are hot, add them to the pot of lentils. Stir it up and serve. This stew is very hearty. If you already love lentils, then this recipe will probably become a favorite. If you don't like them yet, then this is a good "get acquainted" recipe. They have a special flavor which puts one in the mind of getting closer to the earth.

I love white bean dip!  Tastes great with a little fresh italian parsley and half a lemon too.  To go even cheaper, use dried beans brought to soft.  Super frugal and makes tons.  Great recipe!
