DO NOT give your baby PEDIASURE!!

Hey everyone I'm sure everyone is getting a bit sick of all my post lol but I've had quite a few problems with my little guy. I dont know if anyone read about what was going on with him so I will refresh everyones memory. My son Braylen is a former 25 weeker and just turned 1 on july 22. 3 weeks ago I took him to the doc because I noticed that he wasnt gaining any weight for about 2 to 3 months. So I took him in and they decided to put him on pediasure instead of whole milk. This is when it ALLLLL started. Everything started off great he loved the pediasure because it was so sweet and he was taking 24 ounces of that a day compared to the 4 ounces of formula he was drinking. So I was pretty excited and thought the problem was fixed. About 2 or 3 days into this pediasure stuff he started throwing uplike crazy he couldnt keep anything down he was gaging just out of the blue just would gag and throw up his entire meal plus what he had earlier in the day. This continued for 3 weeks and I took him to the doc and they upped his zantac from 3cc to 4cc which is alot for a baby and I hate it. So we went home that day and started him on 4ccs which I was sure that it was the reflux that was causing this and I was sure that the med would fix it. Well thursday nite I got a call at work from my mom saying I need to take him to teh ER because his fever was 102 and he wouldnt stop throwing up.I took him up there they got his fever down and sent him home. He continued throwing up through the weekend it was so bad he was dehydrated and his soft spot was sunken it and he didnt have a wet diaper in 14 hours. TOok him to the doc MOnday and they sent him on Wed to get a swallow study done which came back totally normal. Starting that Wed I decided to take him off the pediasure and see what happens. In the meantime I went online and was looking into this pediasure and this is what I found:

 If the docs would have told me all this was a side effect theres no way in hell I would ever give it to my baby. COme to find out it was the pediasure and he hasnt thrown up since I stopped giving it to him. This is why he was so dehydrated. SO word of advice never give this stuff to your baby.

Wow. This is something that I am going to look into. Gage was a 23wkr. He had an NG tube placed in january. At first we were giving formula that was a higher cal. but he wasn't gaining weight, plus, he's almost 2 now and doesn't really need the baby formula. So we switched to pediasure. Now, the tube came out last month, but he still has to drink 4-6 peds a day to up his calorie intake. A few weeks ago, he started throwing up and they just up'd his previcd. He got more dehiderated, and ended up in the hospital. I'm going to deninately bring this to my ped's attention and see what he has to say. Thanks for the info!

OMG my son is 2 and does not eat all he wanted was a bottle of 2%milk through out the day. So I figured I'd take away the 2% milk and give him pediasure. After 3 or 4 weeks on pediasure he began to throw up once a day. He also started having stinky gas. He's not sick, no fever, diarrhea,cough or runny nose. He doesn't even want the pediasure anymore. He only wants water. I wonder if the pediasure has dehydrated him?

WOW this is crazy because my lo is a former 27 weeker and he was on pediasure since 15 months and that made him really sick like you ladies are saying it did to u kiddos i discontinued it on my own put him on whole milk but he kept throwing up so the put him on soy but wasnt hapy with his weight gain so they put him on a high calorie soy drink and it was making him throw up too! He has not had any milk pediasure soy milk or high calorie soy in a long time now and is doing ok but still throwing up! He is now getting referred to a GI secialist, but i bet this has had something to do with it!

he doesnt throw up alot anymore but he throws up more than normal!

I am surprised you gave him so much!  My doctor just recommended pediasure for my 1 yr old that has not gained weight in 3 months. He advised one 8 oz bottle a day, mixed with his whole milk spread throughout the day. He is getting the nutrition incrementally, and not all in one eating. I don't think you're suppossed to give more than 8 oz of pediasure a day to infants.

I have noticed that his poop has changed, and he is gassy, but I have not had any issues with vomitting or sleep issues.

Kenny has been on Pediasure since turning a little over 1. Yes, he does throw up, but it is from trying to eat solids. I have always questioned him being on it because it just seems so sweet for him. He got a g-tube in August because he isnt gaining...the only thing he eats...I should say, drinks, is his Pediasure. They now have him taking that in his tube 3x a day then a continuous feed at night. I am going back to the doctor next week for him so I am DEFINITLY going to be asking tons of questions. He wakes up screaming in the middle of the night...so I am wondering if this has anything to do with it. Its just a never ending issue with him and I am besides myself sometimes. hmmmm I am giving her pedisure now.  And she been getting alots of mucus and congestion.  But I am not sure if it the pedisure or the cold we been getting.  But she does throw up alots....

Krystal never had a problem on it, and she was on it for about a month because she refused to take any formula.

My son a previous 23wkr was just put on pediasure by his GI doc as he was not happy with his weight gain neither was I. JD loves his pediasure and will drink up to 3 a day. His poopy has changed it's very stinky and he's pooping a lot more. He is also very gassy and will wake up in the middle of the night screaming his head off becasue of the gas. The only thing is that his poopy is now of normal color instead of the pasty pale yellow that he'd have with the lactaid milk.
