We try to think about what we eat and we've helped ourselves quite a bit recently. At dinner we talk to and with the kids about how God gives us lots of food and it contains different good things in it so we eat a variety to get lots of good stuff all together. That got me to thinking so I purchased a pack that contained the food grups and some information and put it up on the kitchen wall - a blank wall that we use for this kind of stuff - next to where we eat.
Boy! This has made us really think about adding different foods and trying new things..it's great! I'll post a picture of it later. It has really started a lot of conversations with the kids about what we eat and activity and variety...
The bottom right pictures are from the mypyramid.gov site and really I wanted them to see the actual pyramid...the shape and to see the "a little more of this group than this group"...and I wanted some information for me to be able to share already up and refer to.
The glass tells us that we need to drink water.

Here's a picture of what's on the kitchen wall. It's been great. Soooo much discussion at meals...even with kids as young as 5 and 3 (almost 4). Now they recognize that foods go in different groups and what the groups are. And that involving differents foods is important.

I heard that the FDA revised the food pyramid. Anyone else hear that? I heard that they are realizing people need a lot more vegetables and fruit than they originally thought (5-8 servings a day), and maybe not quite so much bread.
