Just curious if anyone knows their child's school or school board policy if your child comes down with the flu in terms of school work.  I mentioned this to my son's guidance counselor two weeks ago when we were having a conference.  School board policy in my wonderful county says the student has two days to make up the work upon returning to school.  Your child comes home with the flu and is out of school for five days and has two days to make up all the school work, is that ridiculous?

I stated my concerns to the school principal this afternoon, when my son told me that one of his friends was admitted to the hospital with a high fever and three other students were out sick in the same class.  My son's school gives out an enormous amount of work and it seems that students have been penalized for just being sick.  The principals responds was it just not going to be a normal year, we are all going to catch it.  This may sound ridiculous, yes I do have concerns about my son catching the flu, but I have more concerns about him making up the school work and the anxiety if will cause him.

I know they think I am nuts at the school already, so what else is new!  His school will be so happy when my son graduates this year, no more me!  The schools tell you they want the parent to be involved with your child's education as long as you don't ask to many question!  I wish more parents would get involved with their child's education!

I always have the work picked up while they are out, it is just easier to do it while they are sick. Normally there are a few hours in a day where kids feel a little better or get bored just laying around and doing the homework will keep them busy.

I know our schools right now are sending anyone home who has a cough (the constant type of cough) we have had one case of swine flu at the middle school and they are upping the cleaning crews each night and completely sanitizing the schools. So far we have been lucky and it has been minimal but most schools are prepared to bend the rules a bit this year since it will be a little bit different than normal.
