To explain to my son he has Aspergers.  His therapist thought we should try!  I didn't want him to think he was sick so we called Aspergers as a condition.  I compared the condition with his cousin who has asthma.  He goes to a dr, takes medicine for his condition and  and he is just fine.

So time went by. more therapy to help him control his emotions and meltdowns ect......

We were chatting and he says "   He has asthma and can't breathe and I have Aspergers and can't think "  I said where did you hear that?  He said I just made it up.  To myself I laughed!!

On the way to seee grandma and grandpa JCD was terrible ( nothing new in the car . )

Later that day he said to me ( talking about in the car ) I was having an Aspergers attack. You know like an asthma attack!

  • That is funny in a good way, it makes me think of my son. He would say something like that. I can just see the expressions on your faces when he said that. It's hard to deal with this condition sometimes but these children can see things in a different light than us adults. Thanks for sharing that story.

  • Funny, many times I say something pretty similar to my husband :"I'm having an Aspie moment" as a way to explain my behavior or the way I'm thinking or reacting to things at that paticular moment.

    :-)

It's great that your son found his way to describe why he was behaving the way he was according to how he saw it. Not all Aspies are able to express themselves that way... It may sound funny now, but as he grows up it will prove to develop and become very helpful to him. I consider it a gift, so I'm happy for you all that your son has that gift too!

  • I have called it Mommy Moments for years. My children are now 31 & 28(God I hate typing that)anyway, they now call them Mom's Ass-attacks!!!!! On a good day I find it quiet witty,on a bad day it only gets metioned once. I just knew with age they would develop wisdom.
