I have been involved in working with the AANE (Asperger's Association of New England) ever since I have become one of their members a few years back- presented my art in their Art shows, did my own Art show, Book signing, donated my jewelry to their Gala fundraising auction, participated at poetry readings around Boston and even was one of their speakers at the annual convention, BUT now I have joined a few others and become a member on the Board of their new RI chapter.
There was an RI chapter before and it held support groups for parents of Aspies and for adult Aspies, but ever since I reached out and said that we have a deeper need here in RI and we have to broaden our work here, They started looking into it more, and things started rolling once another person "joined the force" here in RI.
Now we have a Board of about 10 people or so and we are working on giving better answers to parents of kids with Asperger's, holding conferences and workshops in our own little state in the near future, making our own Newsletter of which I'm in charge and so on.
It is so exciting to be a part of this growing chapter and knowing we are going to help so many families like our own.
I had to share my excitement with all of you!

That is great. I belong to an ASD coffee group and find it very helpful.
Do they have these types of groups around the country? Just asking because I live in Texas.
