Okay so maybe that's not exactly how it would go down.  Never the less, I'd have to take the spot.  He'd probably tell me to anyhow.  If I were an old man, I'd tell the young one to go home to his family and live his life.

Seeing that i'm destined for the 8th level of hell , or however it's worded.... I might as well just ditch the old man and save myself... 

My head tells me to take the spot but my heart tells me to give it to him. In the end i would probably give it to him and then kick myself for being so stupid!

I would take it - I have young kids his are probably grown.

that's a no brainer, even though the altruistic thing to do would be to offer it to the old man, he would go to hell if he took it instead of letting the young man take the spot, so the reasonable conclusion is that the young man should have it.
