I'm Marlo, I specialise in Kids' Books, all sub-genres, all ages, though picture books are my particular passion.

I'm a published kids' author (two coming out this year with McGraw-Hill), and a middle grade series under serious review (not allowed to say who it's with yet!).
I'm a writing teacher (independent and as of this fall at the Rhode Island School of Design, Continuing Ed www.risd.edu) and professional editor.

I help people develop their manuscripts to the highest standard possible.... in the last month I've had one of my clients get a publishing contract with a respectable trade publisher and another a good agent (about as hard to get as a legitimate publisher).

I work for Write a Kids' Book USA www.writeakidsbookusa.com

I have been searching for help forever. I have done as much research as possible about publishing childrens' books. I really would like to publish something. I love to write! I do believe I need editing though. I'm not sure my skill is at its best. I sent in a MS a while ago and got a form letter. since then it has been hard to write since I gave birth to our first child. Since finding cafemom I have found more information to help me and to motivate me to continue to write. I just want to know what could be wrong with my MS. What are my weaknesses? I guess that is what will help me the most-finding my weaknesses in general. Can you help me out with that? Let me know and I can send the MS or a portion of it  to give you an idea where I'm at.

how many word or pages should a book be before you send it to a publisher.  I am writing an erotica story.

*stands up, waving arms and jumping*  Me, me, me!  I need help!  I'm writing what I guess you would call an urban fantasy fiction... any help, advice, criticism, mentoring would be awesome... please don't make me beg, lol!  I'm on my second draft... stuck in the world of editing.

MarloG,

You said you've been published through McGraw Hill?  I have a children's book about apostrophe usage that I wrote for a college assignment a couple of semesters ago.  I just finished writing a book proposal for McGraw Hill as another college assignment.  The book is currently illustrated with ClipArt (I know, cheesy!).  I need help getting it up to par with other books of it's genre as far as illustrations go.  I've been told by my college professors that the meat of the book is great, but of course everything could always use editing. :)

I am the highly opinionated, overtly moody, overweight, drug-free, conservatively liberal, bisexual-but-monogamous, opposite-sex-married, religiously ecclectic, college-attending, hard-working, house-keeping, poor-but-happy, stay-at-home mother of this beautiful little girl!

Hope you have enjoyed my annoyingly long siggie!

I'm looking for some editing help for the fantasy novel i've written. Instead of contacting one of you directly I figured it might be easier to just post what i'm looking for. I've already ran into so many people who write different ways and think it should go their way and not my own. For example people who write newspaper articles or are journalists don't usually write the same way as a novelist would.

Anyway it's a good length book, about 175 pages in MS word with a one page intro and 27 chapters. I think it's about 102K words. If you can help me with my editing I'd appreciate it, i'm just looking for grammatical errors and any inconsistencies.

Thanks!
