Hi all! It's been a very busy summer for me, which is why I've been rather absent from the forum--I've a lot of catching up to read, LOL!
Anyway, I was curious if anyone had enrolled in the Institute of Children's Literature course and if so, what your thoughts are on it, either good or bad. I've been accepted to enroll, but before I commit financially and with my time, I wanted to see if anyone else here and done the course.
Thanks!
I was accepted a couple years ago but never did it. I looked it up on the internet a lot and it seemed legit. It is backed by the BBB if I remember right.
Thanks! I've heard more good things than "bad," which is encouraging. Plus it can't be all that bad if one receives college credits!
I took this course several years ago and thought it was worth the money. At the time I had just started my writing career and really appreciated the feedback I got from my instructor. Three of the pieces I wrote for my assignments were sold to children's magazines. I have always wanted to take another course, but haven't had the time. Good luck and God Bless!
Thanks! And how neat to have some of your course work published, too. Glad to hear this worked out for you :)

I just finished my second (of ten) assignments. I'm enjoying myself so far, and I'm definitely being stretched an learning a lot as a writer. I have a cousin who's a little farther along in the program than I am as well. I definitely think it's worth the money. I'm getting great feedback from my instructor, and I'm certainly not bored. I found (for some strange reason) the second assignment to be very challenging... probably more because I was lacking inspiration than anything. They're very flexible with timing, which is helpful when you're a busy mom. I'm excited to see what comes of it in the end!

I'm about to start my 2nd assignment and I'm checking the mail box every day to hear back about my 1st one; as long as the edits are something I can learn from, I'll be happy (even if it's something I may not want to hear!).
As to the cost, it's about $700 and you get 4 books plus the manual. The best part is working with a published children's writer!
