I'm on prednisone, plaquinal, prilosec, meloxicam, ritalin, iron, calcium, zoloft, verapimil, and a couple of medications to prevent recurrent infections that I keep getting.  I'm going to lose my prescription coverage in January and am worried about how I'm going to afford these drugs/which ones I need to stay on.  I'm wondering if any of you know what Plaquinal actually does for Lupus.  I've talked to my doctors and they tell me each medication is really important and not to stop taking any of them.

Most of them are the cheap $4 scripts from hyvee but plaquinal, ritalin, verapamil and my preventative antibiotics are each around $200.00 a month a piece so that will be $1,000.00 in meds.  What would you do?  I know I can survive with out ritalin and verapamil, and it might be cheaper all though a pain in the butt to go to the doctor every two weeks for my ear infections and utis since the treatment meds are $4 scripts and I'll still have my medical coverage for doctors visits.  Is it better to just get the infections and treat them or spend a buttload of money on the preventatives to keep the illness's away?  Ugh I hate insurance companies, I wish my social security claim would just get approved already so I'd know if I'll get medicare sometime in the future.  :'(

check with the manufacturers, they offer prescription assistance if you are without insurance, and fit in the monetary criteria and it is not a low number either.

My friend gave me a discount prescription card for people without health insurance. It is free.  She paid to join this company and she gets a $1 everytime someone uses it.  My mother doesn't have insurance and it takes 50-75% off each script she fills. She loves it. If you email me your information, I will mail one to you! Good luck!

I have been off the plaquenil for one and a half years due to pregnancy and then breastfeeding and last year my dr tried convincing me to go back on it b/c my levels were "off" again as he says, and I felt fine but a few months later I got the side effects back again and a few months later more and more and now im back to where I was 5 yrs ago, more achiness then I admit, skin rashes, hair loss, back pain, itchiness all over, dry skin, sores in my mouth and nose.............what im trying to say is YES the meds make a difference and being off them will hurt you in the long run so I plan to get back on them ASAP! Good luck and maybe you can talk to a pharmacist and see if there is any programs they can assist you with payments??
