1 Corinthians 16 (New International Version)

1 Corinthians 16

The Collection for God's People
1Now about the collection for God's people: Do what I told the Galatian churches to do. 2On the first day of every week, each one of you should set aside a sum of money in keeping with his income, saving it up, so that when I come no collections will have to be made. 3Then, when I arrive, I will give letters of introduction to the men you approve and send them with your gift to Jerusalem. 4If it seems advisable for me to go also, they will accompany me.
Personal Requests
5After I go through Macedonia, I will come to you—for I will be going through Macedonia.6Perhaps I will stay with you awhile, or even spend the winter, so that you can help me on my journey, wherever I go. 7I do not want to see you now and make only a passing visit; I hope to spend some time with you, if the Lord permits. 8But I will stay on at Ephesus until Pentecost,9because a great door for effective work has opened to me, and there are many who oppose me.

10If Timothy comes, see to it that he has nothing to fear while he is with you, for he is carrying on the work of the Lord, just as I am. 11No one, then, should refuse to accept him. Send him on his way in peace so that he may return to me. I am expecting him along with the brothers.

12Now about our brother Apollos: I strongly urged him to go to you with the brothers. He was quite unwilling to go now, but he will go when he has the opportunity.

13Be on your guard; stand firm in the faith; be men of courage; be strong. 14Do everything in love.

15You know that the household of Stephanas were the first converts in Achaia, and they have devoted themselves to the service of the saints. I urge you, brothers, 16to submit to such as these and to everyone who joins in the work, and labors at it. 17I was glad when Stephanas, Fortunatus and Achaicus arrived, because they have supplied what was lacking from you. 18For they refreshed my spirit and yours also. Such men deserve recognition.

Final Greetings
19The churches in the province of Asia send you greetings. Aquila and Priscillaa]">[a] greet you warmly in the Lord, and so does the church that meets at their house. 20All the brothers here send you greetings. Greet one another with a holy kiss.

21I, Paul, write this greeting in my own hand.

22If anyone does not love the Lord—a curse be on him. Come, O Lordb]">[b]!

23The grace of the Lord Jesus be with you.

24My love to all of you in Christ Jesus. Amen.c]">[c]

It is amazing how in the early church they really took care of each others needs.Paul is very clear about this is his writings that they should take care of each other including him and the other teachers. It is important that we not only tithe but care for each other and if there is a need it is our job to meet it, for our Christian brother/sister first.

Yes! There is so much that we can do to uplift our church leaders; mostly through tangible gifts..love offerings and intangible; prayer praise and honor.

The houses of worship were so organized and had cheerful givers. They did not have public transport, vehicles, and all the modern technologies like today and  it seems the LOVE was just in abundance!

Something to be emulated to the 10th power in our present churches.

What does Paul mean by... saving it up so that no collections need to be made.   OK I get the saving it up part, but not the collections part.  Would he literally go to the persons home and try to collect?

1. the first thing that hit me was the fact that they set aside a sum of money, saving for when he came to visit so it wasnt a last minute thing. bascially what i was taught in financial peace univeristy with dave ramsey, that if you have an "emergency fund" its no longer an emergency. so when he the  priest comes to visit if you ahve money set aside to buy things needed for his stay or his journey then it wont be an emergency or a burden or inconvience

2. i didnt learn anything new persay but i did recieve BIBLICAL confirmation of something i heard someone speak about and that is how we are suppose to help and do for our spiritual leaders and such. so that was kinda nice and i knwo right where to go to if i have questions and such.

3.i think i pretty much did that since i talk a lot. :)

*thank you women of christ for all you do and allowing God to use you as vessels to help others. be blessed and highly favored my sisters in christ love you all.*

The Christians in Jerusalem were suffering so he was telling them to save it up and give it to their chruch and it would be there when he or one of the others got there to take it on to Jerusalem.

I also love the way they took care of their sisters and brothers back then. I remembered reading some where once that it wasn't like feeling like they were begging which is what one would do before Christ that after Christ it was like taking care of family. Where the followers camped everyone ate like family all the women shared the women's duties and the men the men and then they went out and spread the word.

They went to other parts of the town and gave food for the widows and the orphans to take home and feel like family so that no one felt like beggar like they once felt.

I know that some churchs still give but being a person who had to ask for help a time or two I felt like I was begging I was even shame to ask my own church for help when I needed it so I understand this so much. I still have to learn how to ask for help when I need it,I just wish that it wasn't so hard and that you didn't feel so bad. Because I have a husband and he works his butt off to pay or bills, but I wasn't working and we needed help and that happens sometimes in families with mothers and fathers it happen more then people would like to think, but b/c there are two parents people feel like you should have it.

Well change starts with us if we are on the services at our church remember you are there to make your sisters and brother feel better as well as meet their need. amen
