My nephew is 5 years old. Sunday morning he got attacked by 2 pitbulls. We were told that this is the worse case that they have ever seen (this hospital is a hospital for children, so they have seen alot). He is alive and it looks like he will survive, but he may not be able to use right arm and leg to the fullest. He has several broken bones and over 100 lacerations. The dogs did not get his face or neck so that is good. The dogs have been put down. This is another warning to get rid of your pits if you have any. This baby is tore up from this attack, He has a lifetime of pain and surgeries ahead of him, but plenty of love and support. Just please pray for him and get rid of your pits if you have them. Thanks Beth

I am so sorry for what your nephew and family are going through.  I am terrified of Pits for that reason.  I hope and pray he recovers well.  He seems like he is a strong boy.

Why would I get rid of my pit, she is the most beautiful, loving, loyal dog.

I have had a pit in my family since I was 1yr old.  I recall riding them, pulling their tails and wrestling with them.  They were my best friends.

I feel for the child, it is a horrible tragedy but you shouldn't blame the dog and call for the extermination of all of it's breed.  (which is basically what happens when you place a pit in a shelter due to the stigma placed on them)

Their owners should be horse whipped !!!  Lack of proper socialization, training, love and patience leads toward their aggrssive tendancies.

They have became to much of a "status symbol".  People like Michael Vick make me sick.  Cause yes, they do have those tendancies.  and if you treat them like a "DOG" you'll see it.

But if you treat them with love and respect you will see a very loving 4 legged family member.  A great companion.  A thearpy dog.  A rescue dog.  A childs best friend.

Please take some time around mine, or my mothers, my aunts animals before banning the whole breed.

In my expierence bad dogs come from bad homes.  When I worked for the human society, we'd go to these animals homes and find them tethered to a tree, nothing but dirt yard from being tied up all day, feces every where, no toys, dirty water and dirt and mud in thier food.  Obvious abuse.  It saddens me that we had to take it out on the dog when it was the owners own fault the dog was getting mean.  I wanted to put them to sleep.  Given those same conditions, I'd get pretty "mean" too.  No animal is going to fair well under that neglect.

But I do pray for your nephew.  I am sorry he had to go through something so horrible.

It was the pits fault. The owner raised it with love and didn't train it to fight or anything like that. He put the dogs down, all of them that he had. The dogs were raised around these kids and yet they still attacked. So yes I call for the breed to be killed, put down whatever you want to say. You did not see this baby he was ripped apart, the dogs ate him not attacked but ate him, they ripped him apart. His right arm may be damaged beyound repair, his leg too. You have been lucky and I hope that they never turn on you. I hope noone never has to see something like that. He was asleep with the tube down his throat and I was in there with him and he started crying IN HIS SLEEP. It was not a pieceful sleep to say the least. So sorry I do not like the breed

I am so sorry to here about your nephew.  That is a crying shame.  That this dog had to do that.  A pit bull almost killed my hotdog, and did kill my miniature doberman.  So I understand you being upset about this dog.

For the mother that was saying it is the owner not the dog.  I will agree to you at some point.  The thing is.  You never know when a dog will attack.  Dog's have a naturally attack ability.  Sometimes things will just cause these animals to snap.  So PLEASE don't blame this 5 year old child for getting attack.  It was the DOG.  Oh yes before you even say anything I have a full size doberman.  That is very well trained.  My 6 year old can tell him what to do and he listens.  I have a 10 month old.  He is not allowed around him, unless my husband or I are there.  Why b/c he weighs 125lb.  One step on my baby could be a big problem. I will also say.  My dobe knows who his master his.  There can only be one master.  So he will always obey him.  So if my 10 month old was to get stepped on, would it be my child's fault or the dogs or the owner.

What I am really trying to say.  You came on this post.  Made a post about how it isn't the dog and so forth.  The OP doesn't really care.  She asked for payers for her nephew.  Yes she has every right to be upset.  He nephew could had died.  No you don't care to here that.  All you care is that this dog is not bad.  Wake up.  Kids die all the time from these dog.  You made a very selfish post of this dog.  I don't know the OP.  I will say.  I am upset to see a mother act that way over a dog.  Dog's are our family too.  The last time I check our blood came first.  Don't go to a post and support a animal that just attack someones love one.

Sorry to the owner of this post.  I am not trying to start anything.  That woman's post just upset me.  I would never want this to happen to my son's.  I hope he will be OK.  Yes you should try to get them dogs banned in your county.  I know in my county they are trying to get it done.  The county next to us.  They already have it done.  You can not own a pit bull in P.G. county in the state of Maryland.

Good luck to the little one.
