|Police: Body believed to be Brooke Bennett located|
July 2, 2008
Vermont State Police Col. James Baker has announced that a body believed to be missing 12-year-old Brooke Bennett has been located.
A location was identified Tuesday based on information discovered during a search of the home in Randolph belonging to Bennett's uncle, Michael Jacques.
The body was discovered today. It has been to the Office of the State Medical Examiner in Burlington for positive identification, Baker said.
Federal authorities also announced late Wednesday that Jacques has unsealed a criminal complaint charging Jacques with the kidnapping of Bennett. A press conference will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday on that matter.
Police are continuing to investigate the case.
Bennett went missing June 25. It was originally reported that Bennett had been dropped off at a convenience store in Randolph to meet a friend, but police now believe that was a cover.
She was identified on a surveillence camera a half hour later. A witness who was with Bennett and Jacques said the three of them went back to Jacques' home.
