My dd will be 5 weeks tomorrow. I nurse in demand but the past two days she's ALWAYS hungry. I mean, as soon as she's done, she might wait 20 minutes but then she's hungry again! I'm a SAHM, do I'm always with her.. What do I do? & I'm about to start pumping.. How often do I pump? I want to build a strong milk supply & have milk for when I want occasional wine with a meal or when I go out in public bc I still have a fear of nursing in public. Please help me!!! How long should her feedings last?

Always remember to FEED THE BABY NOT THE CLOCK...her feedings should be as long as she needs them.  Give her a chance to adapt to her new world and life.

You are doing the right thing.

DON'T LET ANYBODY TELL YOU OTHERWISE.

Babies are born needing to suck -- seriously -- and the sucking reflex (which seems like they are oh-so-hungry) is accomplishing several things:

1)  it is causing peristalsys in the baby -- that is, the pooping, so he/she cleans out their system and is ready to really eat.

2) It causes your body to produce "plug ins" which will ensure a steady milk supply.

If you try to pump too early and too much, you will get frustrated.  In the beginning we produce just enough milk for their MARBLE size tummy.

Sounds like a growth spurt. Just keep nursing on demand, it will pass. And nursing in public really isnt as scary as it seems. Just get a good cover :)
