I would like to know what vitamins everyone is taking post op......I am taking a vitamin called optisource,,which is a chewable vitamin that you take 4 times a day..its discusting and I have to make myself chew them,,,
i want to know what options I have
i take 2 childrens chewables in the morning, just the off brand of flinstones and i take a calcium with vit. d with lunch and supper, right now those are pill form so i have to wait to take them but when those are gone im going to get the store brand of viactiv. and once a week i take vitamin b12 sublingual tablets. this is what my dietitian reccomended. not sure if it will change after my 6 mos blood work/checkup or not. at first the chewables were gross but kinda have gotten used to them. and it makes sense to just buy one kind for myself, two kids and my hubby is having the surgery done next month so all 4 of us will be able to just buy the one kind. hope you can find a kind that works for you. good luck
This is what I take and when:
Morning: 1 adult multi vitamin, 2 calcium citrate, 2 D3, 1 subligual B-12 and 1 Boitin
Afternoon: 2 calcium citrate
Get home from work: 1 iron and vitamin C
Before bed: same as in the morning
I just buy the store brand vitamins. My multi is Target brand, calcium is Equate (Walmart), D3 is Nature Made, B12, C and Biotin is Spring Valley and my irol is Feosol. All can be purchase at Target, Walmart or drugstore.
Make sure you get an adult mutli that has a least 100% of most cause post op we need 200% per the ASMBS. Also when it comes to Calcium make sure that it is Calcium Citrate and NOT Calcium Carbonate. We do not asbord the Calcium Carbonate.
I used to do the store vitamins/flintstones etc.. Then when I was pregnant with my son I found out I was severely vitamin deficient. So I take mostly Bariatric Advantage Vitamins. My Multi vit, calcium, and iron all come from them. I also take a B12 injection weekly right now while I try to build my B12 back up. I was doing a sublingual but it wasn't helping me. Once it's built back up I will be doing a b12 injection monthly instead of weekly. Also remember never take iron with calcium. Calcium blocks iron absorption. If possible take iron with something with Vit C. Vit C helps iron absorption. I will also add that I had my RNY done almost 8 yrs ago so I have major malabsorption issues.
Here is the vit information for bariatric advantage vitamins:
Multi vit.
Per 2 tablets
Directions: Take 2 tablets per day or as recommended by your physician.
