Are ETSY shops lucrative?

My youngest child goes to kindergarten this year and like many crafters, I would like to have a website where I can sell my patterns and finished crafts.  I was wondering if any of you have an ETSY shop and if they are lucrative or not.  I have read about some of ther highlighted shops and I know that some folks sell hundreds of items.  I was wondering about everyone else.  Is anyone else making money off of their shop?  Seems like there are so many, it's hit or miss whether anyone stops by to shop.  What's your experience?

I just created an Etsy Shop last week but haven't added anything to sell...yet so I can't offer any personal advice. Only that I'm pretty excited about it and it's a good way to do something that you love while staying home so when your child needs you at school or at home (sick) you can be there.

What I would do is also join an Etsy group here at CafeMom (I'll join with you) to hear some of their strategies for success.

Oh, good idea about joining a group.  I didn't know there  was a group.  I won't make my shop till sometime after school starts and I have some time to inventory my crafts to see what I can put in there.  I also do craft shows but after the third boy came along I have only been doing 2-3 each year for the last three years or so.  I'll have to look up the ETSY groups.  Thanks.
