My sister has an 18 month old son who is autistic.  She's concerned because he's such a big boy (he wears 3T's) that he's going to outgrow his diapers.  Change comes is very difficult for him (the autism) and I was wondering if she would be able to work with him in this fashion.  I know the goal of ECing isn't early potty training, but she's desperate.

It will take time for your sister to teach your nephew to use the potty but she can do it. Tell your sister to put him in pull-ups they look like a dipar but the little guy can pull them up and down like underwear.

I worked with children with Autism for a few years, We did potty training on a schedule so like every ten mins they would be offered the potty. I worked but it was "training" not EC. True EC not toilet training could help their relationship. I think her becoming intune with her son through EC is a wonderful thing for her and her son!
