i just started ECing Sunday evening... My daughters considered a late starter, 8 and a half months. Im wondering how many pee breaks I should be giving her...? I try to give them every half hour- hour in the afternoon, she pees less then. In the morning I tyr to do every 20 mins-half hour. She doesnt like to sit on the potty for long, and she protests the EC hold and a cradle hold. How often should I take her to try?

  • I dont know how many pee breaks. I do know that its different through out the day. When i first started i tried doing it through out the day. Was hard because she wasnt used to sitting on it. So i decided i would just start with the morning time (right after she wakes up) just to get her used to sitting on the potty. So i've been doing that for a few weeks and every morning she pees and poops on her potty. She now doesnt want to get off unless she's done or when she doesnt have to poo (which isnt often). She loves sitting on her potty now so im planning on starting to add a few more potty breaks through out the day. Dont get me wrong i do occ put her on but its not a constant thing.

I have certain toys that she only plays with while she is on her potty. We have a bigger potty up stairs and i dont think she likes it. Shes a small baby compared to babies her age. So im going to go out and get another small one which im hoping she'll use more frequently.

But she'll play with the toys; we have 3 or 4 down in our room that sitts by her potty in reach for her to grab.

Oh and before i started putting her on the potty to try to catch anything. Like a month before i'd put her on her potty while i had to go and she would be clothed. Just so she got used to sitting on it.

Oh another thing. I tried doing the SSSS for peeing but it seemed to me that when i tried to do that she thought it was a game and wanted up. If i put her on there but "act" busy with something else and not focusing my attention on her she goes. She does it by herself and i dont have to cue her.

I wish you luck. We are doing Part-time at the moment. Im hoping by her bday i'll up the time with it and hopefully do it full time. But anything is better then nothing. :)

  • We're doing part time too, I get a couple catches a day. Today so far has been awesome- Ive gotten a poo, and a pooandpee. =D Im pretty excited over it.

I had gotten her one of the fischer price froggy pottys but her little feet didnt even touch the ground! So I went and got the little Baby Bjorn potty and she sits on that one MUCH better. The other one she didnt even want to sit on, I think she didnt feel sturdy and would just reach for me right when I put her on it. The new tiny one is MUCH better.

I try to do the cue sound but she's mobile and it's hard or me to know when she goes, I really havent noticed ANY signs that she's about to go. I just do it on timing. I know she pees ALL morning. So I try to put her on every 20-30 minuutes in the morning... The part she doesnt like is putting her diaper back on. In the afternoon, I try to let her have nakey time,  she doeant pee alot in the afternoon/evening so it's not much to clean up if she doesn mess. And I cna be doing stuff outside, gardening, hanging up diapers.. etc.

I try to wear her in a sling so I know when she goes but she wants to play if she's at home.

It's definitely a work in progress. But just the fact that I do get 1-2 catches a day, I'll keep at it. =]
