Mask Help Please

  Okay I have no trouble doing a mask that has the outer white but the ones with the black outer I do. How do you take the black out. Here is an example of what I'm taking about.

Here's how you switch it. I started with this mask:

All you have to do is go to Adjustments then Invert Colors. Here's a screenshot:

Here is what I ended up with.
