This is a group for mothers who have been separated from children from adoption, especially those mothers who lost children at birth. Be it called surrender, relinquishment, or the misleading term "placing," it is the same experience we all faced: losing our child to adoption.

"Almost everyone believes that on some level, [mothers] made a choice to give their babies away. Here, I argue that adoption is rarely about mothers' choices; it is, instead, about the abject choicelessness of some resourceless women." -- Rickie Solinger, "Beggars and Choosers" (2001), pp. 55-56.

Lack of resources to enable us to keep our babies ... lack of support around us from our families ... the repeated message that we were too young or that our babies needed a two-parent family ... or hospitals that took our babies from us as soon as they were born, never asking us about our choices, and then shoving surrender papers in our faces while we were still under anesthetic ... there are many reasons why we were separated.

Come share your story.

Come share resources to help other mothers.

Come share information, and expect to be educated as well. Examples:
  • You DID have the right to keep your baby and the support with which to do it -- the U.S. and Canada promised it to all citizens in 1948.

  • Why are there only a handful of infant adoptions in Australia each year, but tens of thousands in the U.S.? Maybe because most here are unnecessary.

  • What is coercion? A coerced decision is NOT a decision at all. Were you coerced?
