hey group, my names michelle and i'm new here.  I'm a mommy to a 3 month old baby girl, Staisha, who was born with bilateral club foot.  She has already had the surgery done, where they cut the achilles.  They said that they wouldn't  do it until she was 3 or 4 but because the castings weren't working they did it now.  Has anyone else had it doen this young.  Also i was curious how did you child learn to walk in the special shoes with the bar in between the two feet.  How long did you child have the casts on? the doctors are saying now anywhere between 11-15 weeks maybe more.

My daughter had the Tenotomy done after her sixth cast- so she was 7 weeks old- but the hospital I go to does it to like 80% of babies that age- then she wore the cast for three weeks and then moved to the shoes and bar- she has been in those for about 3 weeks now.  Her doctor said that her foot sprung right into the correct position after he cut the achilles and I did notice that it looked so much better afterwards. We now do stretches with her foot 3 times a day to help keep it flexible.

My son got his tendons cut...I think it was after his 5th cast, so he was about 6 or 7 weeks old.  Then after that he wore his next cast for 3 weeks and is now in shoes.  He is 6.5 months old and only wears his special shoes at night.  The doctor wanted him to wear them during naps, which is impossible because he only takes 20 minute naps.  So I leave them on for an extra couple hours during the morning to make up for it.  We also do stretches with his feet (we got a pamphlet at the doctors).  My son isn't walking yet, but the shoes haven't seemed to slow him down much.  He is right up there with his cousin who is 2 months older, trying to do everything he does.  We work with him a lot (showing him how to lift his knees up under himself).  He doesn't even cry at night when we put the shoes on him.  He just knows that it is bed time.  It kinda makes for an easy bed time ritual! :)
