My son was born with clubfoot (right). It was a mild case our doctor started him on the Ponetti method of casting. He went through five casts, one a week, and had the tendon cut and wore the last cast for three weeks. They then sent us to the orthotics place where they fit him in the bar. We went through pure hell for two and a half weeks. He would scream and cry nonstop the first day, and cry when you weren't holding him after that. The doctor then had the ortho put him in a different brace. (Not an AFO). It looks just like his cast did. but is removable. He has been a totally different baby. I asked him if it would give the same results as the bar and he said yes. So we are going to go ahead with this brace and hope his next checkup shows good results. I know everyone has said the bar is the only way to go, but I was having anxiety attack with the other one. So we will see. Anyway, just wanted to hear what everyone thought about this?
Sorry, if I can find someone who can do that for me, I am not very computer literate! It is a plastic brace shaped like his cast was, it goes over his knee and is solid on the back and open in the front with straps on the front. It keeps his foot angled out the same way his cast and shoes did. The orthotics guy said he kind of came up with it in his own. And have had the same luck with it as they had with the bar. We will see... he has an appointment this monday with the doctor. Will let you know what they say and will try to get a pic to you.
